trans. shifting problem
i have a 91 toyota pick up with an auto trans. i have been having some problems with it downshifting when i come to a stop or slow down. this only happens if the o/d light is on or if it is blinking on and off. if i come to a stop and it doesnt downshift on its own i have to manually do it. has anyone had this problem or know how to fix it? thanks

How does the fluid look? Is it topped off? I think there is a filter in auto's that needs to be replaced every 50,000 miles but I might be wrong. Perhaps someone that wheels an auto will chime in with help.

yeah i checked all that. i believe it has to be something electrical because it only does this when the o/d light comes on or blinks. if i push the o/d button that does not affect what its doing either. sometimes it acts up and other times it doesnt

it never blinks when i am stopped only when i am driving. and it also does not only hang in o/d it stays in whatever gear it happens to be in but only when the o/d light is on or blinking. i tried pushing the o/d button and that does not affect it. sometimes i can be driving and this does not happen at all but more than likely it happens a few miles into my trip

im having the same exact problem in my 91 Runner and can i tell you it sucks. Ima be checking all electrical wireing for the trans. It seems to me that it has to be shorting out somewhere for it to only happen sometimes. But i dont really know, any information to help us out would be appreciated.
