TPS woes

i think my TPS is dead. I try'd to get it to adjust on the throttle body and it read dead, nothing nada. I took it off and if I push the part that moves in, then around I can get reading, but they are very erratic. I think she is just wore out!

It turns out that Toyota mad a change with the TPS in 3of 89. My truck tells me it was built 9 of 88 (title reads 89) on the sticker on the door jam. Does this mean I need the early model of TPS? I read the TPS article on 4crawler, and it states the connector on the early ones pointed down, the latter ones pointed toward the front. Mine points to the front.

just make sure you get the same one...the horizontal or vertical facing one.

hopefully the part number is still visible on your TPS.. It's a Denso part so it's likely you can get them from places other than the stealership..

try cleaning it out with some brake dust cleaner before you drop some cash on a new one.. I was able to get some mud, water, and grime out of mine with a few shots of brake dust cleaner..

I thought that you weren't supposed to get any cleaners in there, except maybe electronic contact cleaner. In fact, I keep hearing that you should remove it before cleaning your throttle body. There are conductive carbon traces in the TPS that don't like to be cleaned away.
