Are Toyota Hilux and Toyota Pickup weatherstripping seals the same?

So i’m getting to the point where I need to start getting some new seals for my 1989 Toyota Pickup Ext Cab.

Ive searched many threads and no one has really asked this question, besides one thread I found. The guy ordered the seal to try it out and then never updated the thread with how it went..

Certain seals are no longer produced and unavailable (inner window seal), others are very expensive of what you can still buy. ($160 total for both of the upper door seals on A pillar.. literally 2.5 feet of rubber..)

I see some of these seals on eBay and other websites that look nearly identical. Has anyone had luck with using Hilux seals on their pickup or even tried it?

Technically, all the Toyota pickups were Hilux until the release of the Tacoma.

Have you tried Amayama?

I got burned on a windshield gasket, thinking it would replace the sealant and metal trim. I believe that one turns out to need different glass to work, there's an extensive thread about it. Window run channel, door seals, and one of the wiper things that clicks into the door (I forget if it was inner or outer) I got off ebay and had no problems with, I think they were marketed as Hilux as opposed to PU. There was a crew cab Hilux, so that's something to watch out for, but Xtracab stuff of the same year should work.

This is great info, thank you.

Might be worth trying then. I’ll try and find that thread. I’ve checked many threads using keywords such as “weatherstripping” and “seal”, i’ll try some other words and some other forums too.

Here's the windshield thread...rust maker is the keyword for this one. It is lengthy, and I've always been a little confused about exactly what years it covers. But some people end up with a rubber gasket instead of the chrome trim, which is super expensive on the ebay and aftermarket so not quite a perfect fit. Someday I'd like to switch to the gasket, but I'm pretty sure the glass itself is different too.
