Towed a 3k pound boat/trailer over Stevens (WA). Results:
I planned a camping trip to eastern washington and got a genius idea: invite my friend and her BF, who happens to have a boat and no truck, along.
After loading a few hundred pounds of gear into the back of my Runner ('94 3.slow, stock), and hooking up the boat/trailer, I couldnt help but notice that the rear end, with my new Allpro sag correction springs, was only down ~.5-1 inch. Not bad considering the weight, no?
Anyway, real purpose of this post is to say that the truck did pretty good. I could maintain 50-70mph in 4th on flat/slight incline pretty well. Going East over the pass is where I hit the lack of power problem. I was down to 3rd in around 4k rpm just to maintain 35-40mph, but what can you expect when you ask a 150hp engine to tow 8k pounds?
I averaged, amazingly, 13.5mpg on one whole tank of fuel, and thats with the AC going 1/5th of the time.
Another note: the boat was loaded with all of my friends gear because their Civic couldnt hold it.
