You might want to check the splices as someone suggested to me, you take the tape off your harness on the passenger side near the firewall where it goes into the cab there should be a white wire with a red tracer and all four are spliced together, that is the wire that brings the signal to the injectters to fire. Sounds like someone may have been into your harness before you bought the truck. And check each injector to ground. You could also check the ECU with and ohm meter there is a page in the FSM with what each point should read and far as voltage and ground and resistance etc.

Someone mentioned timing but you never mentioned if the timing was checked? That's my first guess or egr which you said you checked....I believe it should be at 5ish degrees on my 22re? And I believe a jumper has to be installed to cut out the ECM from advancing the timing, I've done it before but I forget what exactly I did. And did you ever get the new fuel filter on? And Many things change as the engine temp change...there's fuel and timing maps, they all change according to the engine temp and air temp and throttle position and other inputs.

Heres a good one.
You can read the whole thing if you want to.

At this time (twenty years ago) fuel filters were completely deleted from all Toyota service maintenance schedules for all EFI vehicles. The oil change, air filter change, etc., remained, and were covered in
great detail in all factory service manuals, etc. But, all references to "fuel filter replacement" were deleted for all time from all factory service manuals. A whole half page of the factory service manual is devoted just to inspecting fuel pipes for any kinks or
deformation (including illustrations of a leaking fuel line). Text and illustrations of the precise, recommended placement of the rubber fuel line's spring hose clamp is fully covered, but absolutely NO mention
whatever of "fuel filter replacement". There is absolutely NO mention of any fuel filter replacement in any owner's manual (does anyone ever read them?) Do you think that the factory repair and owner's manuals
were trying to tell people something??? Did you get the hidden message??

I had a similar issue once after getting water into the AFM. This device can really cause problems if its not working properly.
When running into these kinds of issues, its handy to temporarily install a wideband o2 and gauge. You can see how lean / rich youre running and narrow things down based on that.
But, sounds like you found the problem, good job.

Well all the wires going through the fire wall look good all the way to the injectors. I took the upper intake off and checked all the wiring nothing has been tapped into there. How hard would it be to just hook the carb setup on to it as far as wiring it goes for it to run, crank, lights and exct to work like it should. I dont really see the point in buying a ecu for it when i have a carb and intake to put on it. all my prolbems are pointing to the ecu. Any help would be nice.
