Total Chaos Mid Travel coilover question
I have a 92 4x4 standard cab, 2.4, stick. Ivan Stewart front fiberglass, plate front bumper with a winch, and a custom flatbed. I will have the front end done tomorrow, to which I am going to use the Sway-A-Way torsion bars with Bilstien 7100,s for a while so I can use it for work till my daily driver gets back to me. At Kartek (where I bought the 10" Fox coilovers) the salesman told me I would need 550lbs over 600lbs coil set up. I am thinking that may be a bit strong for a small truck, however I'm not a coilover expert and would like to see if anyone here has any realistic rates of coils from experience.
Thank you in advance.

The guy at kartek probably wasn't that far off. Spring rate isn't as cut and dry as it seems especially when you are dealing with dual rates. I would call TC and see what they recommend but if you want to figure out your final rate for dual springs, use the formula
(spring1 * spring2) / (spring1 + spring2)
I run a single rate 400lb spring on my 2wd with 8'' stroke coilovers, and its probably too much spring. I've just been too cheap and lazy to buy lower lb springs.
ood to see you going with an actual good proven kit, and not just a glorified ball joint spacer setup.
EDIT: Just asked my friend who has an 88 4runner with the TC kit on it and he is running a 16'' 500lb single rate spring
(spring1 * spring2) / (spring1 + spring2)

Man, that pickup is gonna be DOPE. I think a lot of what made these '89-'95 trucks so appealing to me was the Ivan Stewart Toyotas from the Mickey Thompson stadium racing days. I'm super envious!
