Are Torsion Bar Anchor Bolts Interchangeable (pre-1988 bolt is discontinued)?
4Runners made after 08/1988 have a different torsion bar anchor design, and hardware also changed from the double nut style to single nut design.
The bolt for the older double nut design is discontinued (90101-12118), but the bolt for the newer design is still available (90101-12104).
1) Can the newer bolts (90101-12104) be used with the older double nut design?
2) Can the newer torsion anchor (and it's hardware) introduced after 08/1988 be used in place of the older anchors on frames made before 08/1988?

Dave - I typed out a whole response, but it all got lost somehow when I hit post....
Summary is that I bought all new newer style parts, bolts, single nut, and anchors for my 1988 4Runner, which had the older style on it with double nut setup. The new anchors will not work in the frame, so I used new bolts, old anchors, and new single big shouldered nut. The new nut doesn't quite sit properly on the old anchor, but it works, or at least it has worked for me for several years. Hope that helps.
Where in South Florida are you?
