I found a place here in town that will regear the diffs I have so I'm keeping my lockers and such. Everywhere else I looked was more expensive and wanted my current diffs in return or I'd have to pay a massive core charge.

So I'm saving money and time and having them rebuild next week.

If you need someone to put them together for ya, I highly recommend ZUK.

He is on here, and does great work, and stands behind it!

Teuf- I'm running 285/75/16's for now.

Update here- Dropped the rig off and of course I got a phone call in less than two hours that something had gone wrong. Seems that where the bearings are supposed to be pressed on the carrier is worn down a tad. So much so that the new bearings could be "pressed" on by hand.... so a new carrier is going in the rear, they'll be transferring my Aussie to the new carrier for a modest fee of about 60$.

Should get it back tomorrow and I'll begin the process of breaking in the new gears.

OK so there 33's give or take a mm or 2. And 5.29's. OK so report in detail your opinion on this choice gears. I am ordering an open 8' rear diff soon. I have 33's and would like to run 5.29's. I will go to 35's a year or 2 down the road.

Should get it back tomorrow. The kit for the front was for a 8" differential and needed to be reordered.

So little update here. The truck still isn't ready, in fact I might not even get it back before I fly out tomorrow to visit family.

Problem this time you ask? The Genuine Gear "master install kit" doesn't come with the pinion bearing for the front end.

Get this. The tech tells me that it's a problem that they've had for years, my response was "well if you knew it was a problem then why didn't you order the bearing when you ordered the kit?".

His response? "Well it's a Toyota specific bearing, we ordered one from Toyota and it'll be here tomorrow morning we think".......

WTH? This is the last time I EVER let anyone work on my rig. And this is 4 Wheel Parts.... a NATIONAL CHAIN!

Oh for the love of Odin I'm going to find a beer and start packing for my trip.

An e-locker would be great but it'd involve....
1) Getting the assembly (rather expensive).
2) pulling my rear axle out to mod it for the e-locker install (don't have the time or area to do the work).
3) Getting the e-locker regeared (if I had a place here that would regear an e-locker then I'd have them regear my existing third members).

An auto locker up front is a great idea, in fact I happen to have one in my rig right now.

Just to let you know I have lockers front and rear (Lock-rite and Aussie respectively) and love them. Just need to change the gear ratios to match the new skins and load.

Thank you for the advice and ideas!
i thought aussies(and most auto lockers) werent gear specific? cant you just throw them in any toy 8'' axle(7.5 ifs)?

what I would do is get the ring and pinion gears(and a setup kit if you want) and just have some one set the new gears up for you? I think its gunna be really hard to find an assembled third for the 7.5 IFS

edit:
after i read the whole thread, i see this is kinda what you did. I went into the 4 wheel parts a couple times. shopping and seeing if they were hiring. wasnt to impressed...

Yeah Skoti that's what I'm doing.

On another note I'd still like to meet up for a day trip to do some wheeling but don't think I'll have the new gears broken in, or have the time, before we leave for North Dakota/Idaho. Perhaps we can meet up somewhere for some Toyota talk.

I appreciate it VP, I really do. I was just down to zero options and zero time. I'll tell you what, I'll take you up on a weekend of "teaching me to wheel" once we get up north and I can take time to come visit.

Deal?

Oh and tell Kiyo to come also, and Vital, and... well everyone else that wants to go watch me look like the rookie I am. After all the President is really an office position.
