That's exactly what I was thinking...Normally if you are going to that much trouble, and spend that much money, you intend to keep it and get your money's worth back out of it. Sounds fishy to me...

how is the 22RE on reliability? is that some kind of sick joke? Have you learned nothing about Toyota's? The 22RE just might be the most bulletproof reliable engine EVER MADE. However $4500 is asking a bit too much, even with over 200,000 miles that engine could possible go to 400,000 and maybe more if treated with care.

Ugh, I hate that transmission. My 5 speed swap is almost done so if you buy it and the auto takes a you can buy my old auto for $50 For that much cash I'd run fast and find a better deal with a manual transmission. I bought mine with an auto and supposedly a new head and although I committed to fixing it (rust free 86 4Runner) after the HG blew, I wish I had bought a truck with a manual in it to begin with, it would have saved me some cash.

I agree. It's got to have 5.29's in it to even have half a chance as a DD.

You want this cheap? Take $2500 in cash and a friend with you. If he turns you down just wait a week or so. He's going to keep thinking he should have taken the money and he'll either call you in a week or sell it to someone else.

I have bought numerous vehicles with this method......

I bought my Runner back in April for $2200. It needed alot of interior work but I had two parts trucks. The selling point was that it had no rust in the quarters. I still need to swap motors but with a little more time Im going to have a great truck. $4000 is very steep for a base model with a pig of a transmission. Ill keep an eye out if I see another clean 4Runner in the area.

I have been earneastly searching for a needle in the haystack - I want an 87 Turbo 4Runner SR5 in nice condition and not built! With a sunroof and a manual tranny. And I hate Red with brown interior..
