Sylvania Silverstar Ultras 9004/SU

With my truck being a few years old and a little lifted, my headlights are not the brightest. So I switched to the new Sylvania Silverstar Ultras. If they hadn't been on sale for $10 off, I would really be disappointed. They are only a little brighter and white-er. Not like there site shows. (Obviously there standard halogen must have been on a 50 Chevy with a 6 volt system). I would only recommed the change if you had to change a bulb from burn-out or breakage.

I almost bought these for $37 as well, but at the last minute dropped them and got the brighter sylvania 2pk for $16. After reading your post. I'm glad I didn't get them. I was also looking at the GE nighthawks for $27.

H4 is the way to go...I'll be doing my headlights soon. Mine are so dim, I would be better off with some candels on the front bumper! May a TIKI torch haha

Don't immedeately condemn the bulbs if you are still running the stock wiring. Test the voltage at the back of the headlights and see if light output is being limited by excessive voltage drops in the factory wires:

If you are not getting within 0.5 volts of the battery voltage at the lights, then the factory wiring is your light output limit, not the bulb.

The aftermarket bulbs, like the silverstars work alot better when you also install a heavy duty headlight harness. I had the same problem, I purchased a set of silverstars and wasn't to impressed with them. So I bought a heavy duty harness for like $17, it was all plug and play, pretty easy to install, I noticed a significant difference. Now people flash their brights at me thinking I have my brights on.

You guys really don't like them? They were the first mod I did to my truck when I bought it. I personally like them, and think they make a big difference in the light output.

I was never impressed were Sylvania bulbs.. period, I've had the silverstars and I could tell little or no difference. Then I got some $50 dollar Hella superwhite bulbs.. all I can say about those is . But then I decided I wanted an H.I.D. look so I went with the Luminics Pure Blue for $35.. and everyone think's I've got HID's now.. haha.

Where did you get the Luminics from?

Ya, let us know. I'd like to try those too. When I 1st got my truck, I put a set of these on: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/88-91...QQcmdZViewItem I actually like them. They aren't too much brighter, but they were nice and clean vs the old ones. Oh and they are cheap!

These are nice too:

So a question... With my Gen 1 and the lousy sealed beam units, can I just trade out to a set of reflectors and removable bulbs? Is there anything else I need (the HD harness sounds like a no brainer)?
