What do you mean when you say the front suspension is shot and needs to be replaced? Most lift kits won't replace any ware parts. They just reposition what you have. If you have worn out or damaged parts, I would fix safety issues first.

That being said, new leafs in the rear and bj spacers up front. A slight lift for that beefier stance, with spending alot or having to change a bunch of other things too. I know I have a 4Runner but hear's what mine looks like with 1.5"-2" lift with 31x10.50's.

the shocks are toast all the way around and i needed new leaf springs in the rear... also, ball joints or wheel bearings up front. im putting new ball joints in anyways and will do wheel bearings if needed when i have it apart.

That 4 drawer Craftsman toolbox is the greatest. Throw in a set of pliers and some srewdrivers and your set. I have one in every vehicle I own. I've never broke down without having the tool I needed to fix it and go.

When you change your shocks, can you compare the lengths of ome shocks to the originals? I've never been able to get a straight answer from anyone.

Is there a shock in particular you'd like to know about? I have researched quite a few. If you want, maybe throw up a shock length post and myself and others can populate it with information. There is shock length info on this bbs but it's fairly spread about among threads.

I was looking when I lifted my 4Runner 2". Everyone says that the stock shock works with a 2" lift but I'm no dummy. If you have a shock that has 4" of travel and you are sitting in the middle, when you raise it 2" you're at the end of your travel. So when ome says that there's is compatable with a 2" lift I am curious if they are longer than stock. I found Ranchos that are 1" longer, perfect for a 2" lift. Complete write up on my site.

the thing is its a 91 with 200,000+ miles on it, it it really worth it? the body is in pretty good shape
f4stunna, I'm in the same situation as you, I have a 1994 with 209,000 miles on it. The truck is in awesome shape, but it has a sagging rear. I see from your later posts you went with the complete OME kit with some ball joint spacers.

How did this work out?

How much did it run you?

How big of a pain was it to install?

Any pics?

Thanks

This question may seem dumb to those of you with experience, but I'm pretty new to this sort of thing, and was wondering if the steering damper is necessary with a ball joint spacer lift?

Yep, you need it. It really has nothing to do with the lift but with the larger tire diameter. Also, wheeling in general applies more force to the tires and an aged stock damper will usually leave you wanting a newer one with more damping.

Thanks for the advice!
Always good to have some sort of idea of just what I might be getting myself into.
