steering rod recall
I have an appointment to have the recall done at a good toyota dealer. What I was wondering is has anybody had it done and would they recommend it? I can't find anything wrong with mine and even with stock 31's on it goes straight down the road...no pulling.

It has nothing to do with pulling, and you wouldn't notice anything wrong with it neccessarily. It says in the recall that the rod could break and if it breaks there won't be any pushing or pulling, as you won't be steering. They've had a few happen on T100's, but nothing on compact trucks/4runners, however just to be safe. Just get it done.

My dealer did an alignment ( at least toe-in ), with no questions. They even had to farm it out to a local shop, which took an extra 2 hrs. Altogether , took about 3 hours from drop off to pick up. Ask em at the outset, about the alignment.
Coed has it right. The failure is not usually associated with on-road breakage ( tho it 'could'). The failure usually comes during slow-speed wheeling/crawling,, with the wheels straining sideways against rocks, ruts, tree roots, etc.

I think I'm going to get mine replaced. my dad says not worry about it, but I don't want to be going down the road and have the thing break. the chances are that if it breaks you're probably going to hit something.

Yep,
the only documented breakages have been in parking lots, so with the low resitance once moving at a few mph you should be safe. But I am going to do it too.. Plus I am putting BJ spaces and new ball joints in, so the free alignment will be good.

i ride on 35's with my 91 p/u. i was driving out of my neighborhood one day when my steering felt funni to say the least. my relay rod complete snapped in half. DOH! well, i towed it to my local yota shop (after my friend helped me carefully tow my truck back to my house ... imagine trying to tow a car without any steering! ) and 1 day later, voila, all fixed per the recall!
