Starter sticks and VERY rich/rough start when cold
My '87 Sr5 has always had a very rough cold start problem.. I just built a brand new 22re for it so I don't think its anything mechanical. I am leaning towards the cold start injector or the idle air control valve.. but I'm just curious to know why it's starting so damn rough. If i dont keep the throttle steadily open the VERY first time cranking when cold, it's a pain in the huevos to start up. Once it fires up, it just pukes black smoke. It takes a while to clear up of all of the raw fuel but once it's warmed up, it starts up just fine. I understand how to test check the IACV, but what are some symptoms of a bad/stuck valve?
I have checked the cold start injector for leaks/ drips and it passed just fine.. no problems.
Another problem it has when starting cold its that the starter will keep cranking for a solid 5-10 seconds, even after the clutch has been disengaged and the key completely pulled from the ignition switch. Does this sound more like a faulty ignition switch or bad starter relay? It will do it usually just once, rarely twice but it has happened.
I just did a complete overhaul on the starter.. these dippondesno starter contacts like to stick but they looked just fine.
Any ideas?
