Special Service Campaign for 90-95 4Runners, 89-95 Trucks and 93-98 T100s

I called the dealer in Costa Mesa. They checked my VIN against a notice they had received. They said my VIN wasn't included in the recall. They also said that the breadth of the recall hadn't been established for sure yet. Things should be clearer in a month or so . . . . so they said.

Just left the local dealership (or stealership to everyone here but toyota_mdt_tech ) and was informed that not only would they not cover any extra parts if they were needed, but that I would have to sign a form before they took the truck that if any extra parts were needed that I didn't want to pay for they would refuse to do the work on the truck.
Needless to say I left. I'm going to at least check some of the other nearby dealerships in the area before i give them my business. I've never had one single good experience with this dealer.
If anyone wants to know who to avoid, Deluca in Ocala, FL.
I let her know that people all over the country were getting tie rods and idlers replaced and the like, but she let me know that at this dealership nothing extra was replaced, but I would get an alignment if they could do it with my bigger tires.
Am I being unreasonable here?

Took mine in for the recall bout a month ago. They replaced the steering relay rod, tie rod ends, and alligned it. Needed an alignment anyway. Not bad for free Talked to the mechanic for awhile, he said the newer relay rod should be much stronger.

then he doesn't have a truck affected by the recall. My newly replaced one bent on the first trip out. Maybe they have changed them since then, because the replacement seems to be holding up fine.

I have a 1990 4runner, I got the recall serviced a while ago. You just have to take it in to any Toyota dealership and they will do it for free.... Real quick trip for a free preventative maintenance step.

i have a 94 4wd pu that was affected by the recall. the dealership was great about getting it in fixed and aligned. in and out in 3 hours. the mechanic pointed out a few other parts that were worn but didn't try to sell me anything. i have nothing but good to say about this experience at ensign toyota honda in Logan Utah.
then, to top it off, they quoted me the lowest price around to fix it. so naturally i take it there. i pick up my truck, and its washed! they cleaned it for free. the bill was 4 dollars less than the original estimate. i was really impressed, and from now on, i think i will go there instead of an independent in my area for work. they charge 60/hr and the independents are 40/hr, but my bill is just as cheap at toyota, but they are much faster, plus they are toyota technicians.
the dealer is Aubrey Alexander Toyota in Selinsgrove, PA

89 Extra Cab
What's up everyone. I'm totally new here. I recently purchased a 1989 SR5 Extra Cab Pickup and now I'm finding out about the head gasket recall. I know it's probably old news around here, but since my truck may not be on the recall list (I'll check in a few days) what preventive measures can I take to prolong the life of my truck? From what I've read this is what I'm thinking of doing: Any comments or suggestions are welcome.
1. Have new head gaskets installed. Should I go OEM or aftermarket?
2. Change the thermostat and coolant (Want to make sure the coolant is fresh and looking to change the coolant at sooner intervals than recommended).
3. Valve job w/adjustments.
4. Install new knock sensor wire.
Whew!!
Looks like it'll cost me some $$$ upfront, but with all this it should be good for a long while.....I hope. Thanks to anyone who responds. Have a great day guys.

Special Svc Campaign
Just heard about this "Special Svc Campaign" thru this thread and called immediately w/my VIN number. Toyota customer svc very quickly advised me that my 2002 4Runner IS affected and to take in to dealer to have repaired.
This site has been really helpful to me and just wanna say thx! I've located parts, gotten steered away from bad vendors and supplies, and learned a lot in a short time.
I had an attempted theft of my rig 2 wks ago and need to have the driver's door lock replaced. I researched online today for a couple of hours and got very little. Does the whole (electric) assembly need to be replaced to fix the lock/key assembly? I sure hope not.
Also, they jimmied my ignition pretty bad too. I can still drive it but it needs to be replaced. Need to rplc the ignition lock cylinder, switch or what? Gotta get this fixed before something worse and more expensive to repair happens.

No problem Paul. I just responded to the last post on the thread and then kind of expounded from there. I'm new at this so where would be the right place to post? Is this really 2 questions that belong in 2 different places?

He just means that you should ask in the 95.5-2004 section rather than the 86-95 section. We don't know nothin' about your fancy new truck!
I'm a bit shocked that this particular recall is for your truck - pretty much everything has changed under there in the decade between your Runner and mine.......

Yota Beave
I called Toyota directly and gave them my VIN number. They told me what was done, when and what still needed to be completed. I then went to my dealership knowing what needed to be completed.
I just liked to be prepared when I go to the dealership.

Finally got around to getting the recall done... Toyota has been sqawking at me for months to get it done or notify the "new" owner if i'd sold it... Gotta love a company that cares that much about it's customers...
Now I have a shiney new centre link... the down side is now I will HAVE to get under there with a rust wheel and re-paint the front end chassis.
dang 'yota makin' work for me...
