Speakers in Door; a problem

Well the PO to my dad cut out the holes in the doorpanels for speakers and i recently put a sound system in, and had a box of pioneer 6''s and put em in the holes.

Now i cant roll my window down past halfway to be safe, but i hate it when wheeling, have to guess to much and rely way to much on my friends as spotters

For you audio guys, what can i do to make it look nice, but raise the speaker out a bit, so i can roll the window down all the way?

I dont know how far your window goeas down but in my 82 i have 4x10's in the doors so they are only 4 inches tall and the window goes all the way down without touching the top. Also they sell MFD rings for mounting speakers or you could make some and just baisically make a spacer or shim under the edge to raise it out.

If that was my truck I would make some angled spacers, then the speakers would be pointed up towards you for best sound and the magnet would be pointed downward giving your windows as much room as possible.

just make some spacers yourself. Get a sheet of plywood or plastic and cut it up. Cheaper than buying it.

Yeah, spacers or a modified qform. Pretty easy to make yourself.

I found some some neat angled spacers at the u pulit. They were either from a mazda or old previa. Front door mounts. 6" steel I'll see if I cant post a pic. Havent used em yet and would be glad to sell em cause I'm sure I can find more.

are you sure the window would hit?

My speakers are mounted like that and I don't have any problems

Nevermind, I have vent windows and the window tracks are moved back

ya, it pinches the back of the magnet that comes off the cone.

i just stopped off at home depot before dinner, and grabbed a sheet of MDF, gonna go put the pattern on, then cut tuesday after i get off work(school, then work till 9 tomorrow)

thanks for the replies guys, and i even considered getting the vented wing window doors, but then realized they always get broken into, and not worth the trouble lol.

Funny I suppose buy my 87 has speakers there and they roll down fine. They are manual but I don't think that matters.

I've got 6x9s in the doors of my truck, I think there's only 1/4" behind them for clearanse,I've built spacers in the past for other trucks to bring the speaker away from the door with 3/4" plywood.

So the Toy p/u's don't have the vent windows? I'm glad I came accross this thread. I just bought 6.5's on Fri to replace the tired 5.25's and didn't know the 6.5's might hit.

Hmmm.. you know, that is weird as hell. My Runner has the vent windows as well, but I was just browsing through the "flex" thread and some 1st gen Runners/P/Us, have the vent windows, others don't. All 2nd gen Runners don't have the vent windows, but some 2nd gen P/Us, do! WTF? Anyways, looks like I won't have a problem just drilling the hole bigger and squeezing the 6.5's in there. Sweet!
