Slight overheating condition, 88 22re

I intend to try that next. Let me know how it goes. Why 2 holes though? I've only heard of people drilling one hole. I've got to think there is a point where you could drill too much.

figured ill take ezriders advice, the thermostat was 7$ anyways haha so who knows.. there is actually 3 holes if you include the little one already on the tstat... i tested my oem one while doing everything and it opened up at 88*C so i know that works...
ill give you report back tomorrow on how everything goes.. im sick and tired of watching that guage rise.. then drop.. when it gets near the red it pisses me off the most because its -20*C outside.. Oh and im getting a used rad tomorrow... maybe ill throw it in and see if it still doesnt work after the tstat mod.

Yeah, so i drilled two 3/32nd holes plus the built in little valve.. im gonna go out and get another one and just drill 1... haha it didnt over heat... or even reach normal temp.. no heat+ -30*C weather= worst drive to work ever.

if u dont have any shroud than that is most likely your problem. you would overheat more in the city doing stop and go. once on the freeway. the constant air will keep it cool and the fan doesnt really do anything
i would get a shroud back on there and recheck. all that drilling holes and running different t-stats is only hiding your real problem

K so, i picked up another tstat and drilled one hole.. seems to take a big longer to heat up, but atleast it stays where it should. I know its only covering my problem, but im sure its related to my headgasket/head problem.. while i wait for my parts this should do...
also picked up a newer rad, way better condition and a bit beefier..

thats fine if you know what your problem is. but the op has a new motor and has a slight over heating issue therefore he should have to try to do mods to keep it from over heating. he needs to figure out what the problem is instead of covering it up. for him i would get a shroud on there as that should fix the problem, if not its a start
