do some research... at least some with the AQMD in norcal.

whatever engine swap you decide to do is a 'swap' and that will require you to either get the old engine to meet new specs, or a new engine to meet spec for your frame. so, get over it.

that is what you'll have to do, point blank.
if you want to drive your truck on the street, and maybe even off-road.
better go check the laws, rules and regulations.

just as crappy. Your going up in cc's so theoretically you'll just burn more gas. Or get around the same. Sounds like a lot of work the way abecedarian describes it.

No, not necesscarily. You're not taking into account intake vacuum. A 3.0L engine could use more fuel than the 3.4L. Unless you're at wide open throttle (not even then), you're not taking in 3.0 or 3.4L of air (at 1 atmosphere) respectively into the cylinders. You can maintain the necessary ratio of 14.7:1 without using more fuel in larger engine due to a more closed throttle.

I'm not explaining it well, but you wouldn't either after Turkey dinner.

efficiency does have some 'basis' in cc's, but sometimes it takes more cc's to be as economical as others. peak torque, brake specific fuel consumption, aerodynamic efficiency.

You also must consider that emissions testing is done on a Parts Per Million basis... not a total. A well build 350, even if it's a 72 block, would burn better than an old, worn 22RE.. and offer more power. Up here, we expect 5.0 Fords to pass with 50 PPM hydrocarbons, but the 1.6L Civics are allowed 70. That's because the 5.0's come with 4 catalytic converters... and if working should be well into the 20-30 PPM range.

If the engine is fresh, what is preventing you from simply stating "It's a '93 block, crate engine, built for a 93 Chev C1500 pickup". The specs of the c1500 would be higher than the 3VZE, thus we're replacing an older, tired motor with a fresh unit. Ne pas?

When to Smog and Where to Go
Every other time you renew your vehicle registration you must obtain a "smog certificate"―a printout of your vehicle's emissions test results. You must register your car within 90 days of your emissions inspection.

looks like i might be able to do it
