Check for corrosion at the terminals. Brake and running lights share the same socket, so its possible that you have a problem there.
Since the front lights work, you can eliminate the switch or relay as the problem. Get yourself a multimeter and see if you have power through the wire to the socket.

Get a wiring diagram for your vehicle, a test light, and find where your circuit is open. My test light has an aligator clip on one end ad a very sharp point on the other that allows you to pierce thru wire insulation. These toyotas are ground switched meaning the switch is on the negative side. Check the fuse and make sure the ground is clean and tight. Do you mean your head lights or parking lights?

They rely on separate circuits, so check to see if you have power at the plug. If you do, then you know where the problem is. Weird that both would be out, but I once had both my headlights on my 89 go out at the exact same time. Several switches and a lot of curse words later, i figure out the bulbs were both bad. I know you checked the bulbs already, so just check if you have power at the plug and go from there.
