Running boards, keep em or loose em
So Ive been told by everyone to get rid of my running boards cause itll make it look a lot better, but I hate seeing all the crap that hangs under the frame so....can anyone get me some before and after pics of their 4Runner with and without the running boards? I agree it will look 'tougher' and look like it sits a lot taller but I think seeing all that junk makes the vehicle look like crap so if you can get me some good pics from a few different angles Id appreciate it, thanks.

I would vote lose the running boards, purchase a 2" BL and then work on lifting the drivetrain and everything up 2" between the frame rails. Then you wouldn't see anything hanging down. I don't really think that it looks that bad anyways. There isn't that much hanging down vs a pickup and most of ours have never had running boards. You could always buy some sliders vs running boards to keep peoples eyes up on those and your truck vs the underside.
Just a few ideas. Happy decision making to you.

i took mine off and it gives me a more aggressive look, however it doesn't realy give you much more clearance, mostly because it was level with everything else hanging down there....i vote take 'em off.

before pics, same suspension lift by the way
after pics
my opinion obviously is to bin them, anything for extra ground clearance in my eyes, but each to there own mate,

Well Im planning on getting sliders, but thats in the distant future, Im going to lift it and lock it first. I will never do a body lift because thee only purpose is to fit bigger tires and I already can fit 33s on a 1'' lift which is plenty more then the 3.0 can handle anyways. I guess when I get done with everything I got planned this weekend Ill take off one side then do some pictures and make a decision off of that. Im not worried about them getting hung up just purely cosmetics.

i just took mine off yesterday. I was pissed for a while cause it did look stupid with the gas tank sticking out 6 inches under, but i just put my new 32x11.50 m/t's on, and i could care less about that. its F***** awesome now!!
so i guess what im saying is new tires = happiness

Just wondering...how hard is it to remove the running boards on a 3rd gen? Just a few bolts? Any cutting? Once removed...easily replaced, if desired?
Sorry to ask this, as I'm sure there is a good writeup somewhere (hidden between all the posts of people selling their running boards).
Any info or a link to a good writeup would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Alright, thanks for the input guys, when I actually mount up my 33x12.50s for good theyre coming off, I was worried about them touching and I drove around with them and they didnt touch but I guess well see how much better it looks like without them.

Go ahead and take them off if you ever plan on going offroad. It is better to take them off also because if they get ripped off or bent up it could be a real PITA.
Drew, nice runner, btw, how often do you have to pull that disco out? Maybe that one got lucky though and has a good driver.

UK Drew you said you had the same suspension setup I do? What kind of shocks do you got and how long are they? My Runner pulls my wheels off the ground all the time, I cant flex close to what your doing in some of those pics, Im guessing the shock is whats holding me up now. If you got a good setup and have tried it are those Eibachs good?
