replacing head gasket

replacing head gasket
1987 22RE AT, DLX, w/ OD, blew head gasket on a remann motor from PMC Engines,Oregon> got 7 years, just shy of 70K. 270K miles, most everything replaced
Compression ~160# in all cylinders. Ran great until kapow.
Thinking of having top job done, head gasket, and front: oil & h20 pump, timing chain, tensioner, cam and crank gears, ....
Q: what brand, other than Denso if they even exist, is recommended for something this old;
what brand oil pump?
what brand water pump?
I guess Felpro is the only headgasket available
Any suggestions,
Thanks

OSK kit for timing components
I like these Ishino Stone gaskets. Made in Japan: :Japan Head Gasket Set by Stone for 85-95 Toyota 2.4L 4Runner Pickup Celica 22RE | eBay
A complete Stone overhaul set for ten more dollars from the same Ebay seller.
Aisan for the oil and water pumps.

As long as the head is in good shape you should be good to go.
These engines do have a habit if you do all new valves or a complete new head of taking out the bottom end in a few weeks just one of those things.
New timing cover can`t hurt it is frustrating to pull things apart and find it should be replaced
Best of Luck

You have plenty of choices in terms of parts once you get it apart and ascertain the extent of the repairs.
I did a quick check and both the engine overhaul gasket kit and the cylinder head gasket kits are still available from Toyota. I've used Ishino, too. Very good quality. I've never been fond of Fel-Pro, but that's me.
If you got water in the oil I'd drain the oil pan and radiator. I'd also pull the plugs and blow them out, and shoot some atf down there and turn the engine over by hand a few times. Help prevent water damage until you get the head off.

I ordered the Stone HD gasket set, the Aisan h2o and oil pumps...got set 4 refurished Denso injectors, used backup cold start and fuel rail.
TIme kit tbd....but,
Q: Mahle headbolts or Yota TEch. Mahle are $42 and Yota Tech is 41.
Which is better and recommended..
thanks much

Assuming they’re stock bolts and threads are good you can reuse. They’re not plastic region bolts.
if for some reason you need to replace than get whatever set of bolts aren’t from China. I’d rather use a used set of Japanese bolts than new ones from China.

I second getting a new TCover. The threads for yoir pumps are probably weak. Mine were but my truck was all busted...And they need like 14 ft/lbs or something very minor, basically just snugged or theyll strip. And keep track of those bolts. Making a cardboard template for them is a great way.
Label everyhting you pull and take lots of pictures. Get difrnt color electric tape to help you match things up. Youre going to want to drop the oil pan so get that gasket. Its not a hard hard job, just make sure you find TDC, and have your crank and cam synced and stab your distributor in lined up right or youll have another thread asking why youre motor isnt running right.
My love for these trucks multiplied when I took my first one apart and saw how easy it was to work on. As they say: you can do it!
