@ Matt 16

my dad found that out the hard way

WHOA, ur truck has 6... nevermind. He has a jetta, and his reverse is impressed 1st, so he almost crashed cuz he shifted and pushed into 1st (out of habit) to get out of a parking spot...

I found the max speed of my gears by coasting and attempting to shift into that gear

You cant downshift into 2nd till about 35 mph
cant downshift into 3rd till about 55 mph
can always downshift into 4th
wont even say anything about downshifting into 5th
and 1st gear is retarded on my car, cuz you cant downshift into it until your going under 10 mph

Note: the shifter won't actually go into reverse at that speed- there are no synchros for reverse and the difference in speed between the collar and the splines so they will not engage- just grind.
I had a friend tell me one time that his mom put her truck ( I think it was a Ford) into reverse going like 55...and the tranny exploded, shrapnel everywhere...

Most autotragics won't let you go into reverse at speed, nothing will happen.

3rd at around 5,500 is bout 60mph

I had a Ford Bronco II with an automatic transmission that you could shift into reverse at any time. I was driving down the highway at 55 mph and my girlfriend hit the shifter with her leg when she turned around to look in the back seat. Knocked it into reverse. The tires locked up. The tranny and engine survived but it was not a fun experience.

redline on a 22re- when you're in 3rd and have the pedal floored and you don't go any faster after waiting 1 minute.

I've had my truck at 70 (indicated) in 3rd and turning about 5000 rpms and held that for 3+ miles up the Grapevine (I-5 in California)... and have done that 6 times (3 times up each side).

You're more likely going to lose power and require a downshift on a grade than you are to hit the rev limiter.
So really, what's the question?

the only time i had relined a vehicle was in my dodge in 2nd gear going about 35mph. i had no tach and the engine was screaming. im sure the valves were floating because the truck didnt engine brake. its harder to tell the engine speed with a loud exhaust like with stock exhaust the engine sounded like it was going fast at 25mph but now with the loud exhaust the engine sounds like its going slower. at least with this yota i can go like 43 mph in 2nd gear at 4000 rpm
