Rebuilt 22RE Misfiring (Need Tuning Help)
I have a freshly rebuilt 1986 22RE and I'm having problems with it running smoothly. It only has about 140 miles on it, so it is still breaking in. There are no air, coolant, or oil leaks.
The main problem is it is misfiring across the RPM range. I can't get it timed spot on. It seems like a fuel and air mixture issue. I bought a new Beck Arnley TPS and adjusted it based off of 4Crawler and Hane's Manual. It is running better, but when timing it the white mark is still jumping between 5-6 and after every a few rotations the white mark won't pop up at all and then go back to jumping between 5-6.
I initially broke the engine in with valves at .007 & .011 cold and then readjusted the valves are set to .008 & .012 hot like the FSM and Hane's says to. It seemed to run better at .007 & .011 cold. I have a bigger camshaft and I have heard rumors about setting the valves tighter when running a bigger camshaft. Can anyone confirm?
Also, does anyone have a guide on how to adjust the IAC? Mine is out of adjustment. I'm sure mine is good because it used to work before I took it apart to clean it, but if it came to it where could I find a new one?
What gap should I set my spark plugs to? I know what the FSM says, but I wonder if anyone has had better luck running a different spec.
Any other tuning suggestions would be appreciated.
