Those illustrations sure do make it look easy without the backing plate on! I like to split the retainers and ABS rings with a die grinder halfway through and then split them with a chisel, so the axle isn't in danger of being effed.

why the hell did you post the bearing Seperator if we can't use it on the bearing? fail.....lol
we use a gas powered hydraulic splitter for our wood splitting needs....helluva faster than using an axe.
however i do have some pieces that aren't split that are a couple feet in diameter

my rear bearings are making no noise?!?!?
i never worked on em or anything, took my driveshaft off to see if it might be the problem (u-joints) and it wasn't...so i bolted it back up..went to a girl's house...and it never made a sound...and still isn't..got almost a hundred miles since it made any kind of racket..

Annnndddddd it started again, turned out to be the ring gear (chipped teeth).
my bearings were bad though, so i'm replacing those along with the seals.
