Really bad idle on warm restarts after going through big puddles

So I’ve been experiencing some really poor idle issues with my truck ever since having to drive through some massive puddles last week.

I was hoping it was something minor and it would dry out and be fine, but now it’s just getting frustrating.

So after driving through said puddles I had to shut off the truck and after an hour or so when I jumped back in it fired right up but then just went to ˟˟˟˟.

This 22re has had a problem with low idle on warm restarts after hot soaks ever since I got the truck years ago. No one has been able to figure it out. It wasn’t that bad. It would idle low and after a while or with a little juice it would be fine.

Now however it’s so bad that it’s getting hard to drive. It bogs terribly. The normal extra gas just makes it bog. I have to revv it way up to like 2k plus to get it to clear. It sputters and coughs and has no power. Really a trip trying to start it back up and get going anywhere. However once it’s up and going it runs fine. Even at slow speed. Once it’s cleared it’s throat so to speak it’s all good. Even if I shut it down and start it right back up it’s ok. But EVERYTIME I leave it sitting for 20 to 60 minutes and it heat soaks it starts up and runs like crap. Boggy coughy sputtery

I don’t know where to start.

Well it’s cured itself thankfully. It seems it was a water issue. It still does it’s normal drop in idle after heat soaks but that is tolerable.

Distributor Cap O-Ring. Keeps the water out of the distributor cap.

Drop in idle after heat soak? Starts & idles normally when cold? Could be the ignition coil going bad. They create higher resistance when they get hot & if the windings inside are old & fatigued, it gets worse.

Definitely check the distributor cap o-ring. I had a car that would always run like crap for a while after I washed the engine because the o-ring was missing.
