Random no start
Hey yotafans!
92 xcab 3.0
My truck randomly wont start, all I hear is the click sound from the passenger side fender area. Let it sit a few mins and it starts. Newer starter too. Has a 12v wire from the igniton switch to the solenoid, no the battery cable. I would even try holding it in the strt position and wiggling the key but no dice. Any help appreciated, battery is newer and charged.

Cable from battery, or starter relay, down to the starter. The heavy cable that bolts to the side of the starter, under the rubber boot. They can corrode inside the insulation, especially at the battery end, and you can't see the strands of wire that are broken inside. They can also develop dirt/corrosion under the rubber boot.
Cable from battery negative down to engine block ground point.
Starter solenoid (the one on the starter itself). There are rebuild kits with the plunger and contacts readily available.
Wire from starter relay to starter.
Starter relay.
Battery positive terminal. The one the actually clamps to the battery. They corrode badly, especially the thin metal Toyota OEM terminals. Replace with a Marine terminal. Those are much thicker, lead, and resist corrosion better. Clean the battery terminals.
Is that any help?
Pat☺

Like Pat says ^^^ about the cables.
You sure the click is the starter solenoid, not just the circuit opening relay behind the glove box?
Pls check if your starter solenoid CONSISTENTLY turns the starter motor when you apply 12V directly from battery to its male spade connector (control coil pin) as shown on my post here:

If your starter solenoid CONSISTENTLY turns the starter motor when you do above, proceed to my post here: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...runner-307493/

Thanks for all the replies fellas! Hasnt done it since, but I do have a postive battery lug w a wing nut. Cleaned all those up. The clicking is the COR, always wondered what it was. Went looking for it one day but gave up. I got my valve cover gaskets installed and no more random puffs of smoke! No change in the great running truck after the drivers side gasket. Did the passenger side the next day and the engine gained 10hp easy. Way more power. Gas mileage is still down to about 18-19 on the freeway. Dunno what that could be, the old plenum cork gasket was fine, but I got a new fel pro one. If it was a plenum leak wouldnt that be a lean condition giving me more power? Maybe the motor likes the blue color of the vc gaskets. Rattle cans appeared and attacked the truck, came out great. Its white so cant really screw it up. Anybody know where I can fine the shifter lens indicator thingie in the second picture? Looked everywhere and cant find it. Thank you thank you in advance!
