Questions on Rebuilding my 94 Toyota Pickup 22RE.

i've ordered lots from enginbldr, too.... honestly, if you have 1500 to give to carquest, thaen you have more than enough to have it done right at a reputable local machine shop. find the wear via bore moc (or at a shop) then order piston size accordingly. if they don't want the pistons to bore the block, you are at the wrong shop. the right shop will not onkly want the pistons to match the bore to, but advise you that they shoulkd gap the rings as well.

Carquest is the only place in the area that does machine work (Port Saint Lucie FL) so Unless I travel pretty far I have to go with them. The new remanned engine from a site would be around 1200 to 1500. I was trying to see if I could save some money and have a used block machined.

I don't know what to think about purchasing a cam from engnbldr.com There's a thread on here where one person got a head and cam from engnbldr and was having a difficult time finding a misfire problem. He checked a whole lot of things including compression and fuel system, he went so far as to replace the cylinder head again but nothing worked. It wasn't until someone stated in the same thread that they were having the same problem and also had an engnbldr cam and head. This person finally replaced his engnbldr cam and the problem was gone.
Shortly after that the thread starter replaced his cam and his problem also disappeared.
It's a whole lot of reading but I'll post a link when I get some time.
There are a few members on here that speak highly of Delta cams. If I was going to replace my cam with a reground one that's probably where I'd be looking. There are also new cams made by Competition Cams, Crower, and maybe ISKY but NEW cams seem to be ridiculously expensive for this simple 4 cylinder.

i gotta ask if it was near idle or just off-idle missfire. if you get an aggressive cam, you are going to get low rpm missfires, or they would come stock that way. you shouldn't ever buy a bigger cam for any engine without being prepared and learnign what it really entails. it's not a simple bolt-on power mod..... it's a tuning tool. you need to understand the lift and durations, and what that means to spring pressure, rpm flow, fuel mapping and programming, etc. it's not that it's a bad cam, but moreso, that the end user might not know what a different cam can do outside of hp claims.
