A question!! Clutch
The clutch was shifting fine, then as I engaged it into 4WD. The clutch would not engage into first gear. I checked the clutch fluid and it was empty, I have slowly been building up my truck. So the one thing that I should have checked, is gonna kill my funds. My little brother laughed at me, anyways the clutch wont engage into any gear when the truck is running(cranking sound if I force it). When its not running it engages fine with no problem? Even after I have put clutch fluid, new tranny oil. Is my clutch burned , I didn't smell anything burnt, like the clutch? what could it be, and is it a pain to change out the clutch?

The slave, where is that located, in the transmission? It was completely dry, I also noticed that lines for fluid are shared with the brake lines? If a clutch is burnt then what would are some indications that it is burnt? Other then the smell, my older bro is my mechanic and currently in some part in Iraq. I never took any mechanic courses like my older bro. Now, I am working on this truck little by little. Any info would be much appreciated.

Try bleeding the slave first. It's on the bell housing, you need two people. If it was out of fluid there is air i it. The brakes do not share anything with the clutch they are independent.

Clutch master and brake system do NOT share the same lines. Trace the line coming from the clutch master (to left of brake booster) down to the bellhousing. 4Cyl and V6 both use only one line, so it would be very easy to trace.

okay, thanks alot everybody! I am gonna go back to my truck. and buy the master slave cylinder, hopefully it works! I know it probably cant be the clutch, because it could not have burned out so quickly, it was shifting smooth before it happened?

Okay, just got back, I bleed the clutch system. I did it when the vehicle was turned off. It still does not want to engage in to gear, while the truck is on (BLAST!). I was told by my neighbor that its the throw out bearing, clutch, basically whole clutch needs to be replaced. I did notice that master cylinder and slave cylinder are two different things. When the truck is off, goes into gear with ease, if its on DOES NOT GO INTO GEAR! Its gotta be the burnt clutch?

Try bleeding again. It can be a pain to get all the air out. Are you sure you're bleeding it properly?
Check the rod on the master cyl that goes to the pedal, make sure it's adjusted right.
Try manually operating the slave cyl, I imagine you could do that anyway.

Have you filled the res w/ fluid, bled the system, then tried/checked for leaks? If the the res is empty, you can't shift, and it has NOTHING to do w/ the clutch being "burnt."

how does the peddle feel, how much movement are you getting with the clutch fork. have someone look at the fork and press the peddle. still sounds like there is air in the system.

When the truck is off the peddle has alot of free play, like it feels as if theres no pressure. When the truck is on its kinda hard to push the peddle in. I hope its not the clutch, when I bleed the system I used a whole big container of fluid. It was squirting out of the slave cylinder drain plug, is it supposed to be a continuous flow? Im gonna give another go!

For some reason, its like you all skipped over my posts.
If the fluid is GONE, then there is a leak. That usually means the master cylinder is toast. So check UNDER THE DASH and look for leaks around the rubber boot.
Go ahead and keep wasting your time bleeding the clutch over and over, but im telling you its not air in the system.

JUst replaced the slave cylinder, and bleed the clutch again. I've narrowed it to the master cylinder, or some sort of leak(under dash?). THe slave cylinder rod does not move foward when the clutch is pressed down to engage 1st gear. I kept on pushing the clutch and it had no pressure. I know its a leak, from the pictures. Any body every encounter this? As soon as I get more funds I'll buy the master cylinder, and just take it from there.
