remember when i asked you how many solder connection you make, before you realize you didn't put any shrink on it before you started? Well, i have done that often, and then i have made many connection with shrink, only to have to add another wire i forgot to splice or had no choice but to add at the same point. The glue/sealant in the shrink is very tenacious, and must be cleaned from the copper, or solder won't like to stick to the bare copper....talk about a time waster!

ezrider- thanks for the input. as i stated before, it's mainly proof-of-concept, extended range, and slightly lower cost. i really want to step away from gasoline alltogether, seeing as how the middle east controls our gas prices. it would be awesome if i could get/make a kit for use with any type of fuel. but until that day arives, i'll start with propane (and propane accessories)
If its 30% cheaper, then you don't really gain anything.
You should look into distilling your own shine, and using that as fuel.
Or look into wood gas if you want to go really cheap.

Like said before, in order for the extended range to actually work, you'll need atleast 30% more propane than you did gas.

i've looked into gassifiiers, but i don't think i'm too ready for that just yet

hey gang!
i just got done e-mailing the guy about the injector kit. a few more of my questions answered:
-euro and american propane fitting adapters are readily available
-i will have to splice into the petrol injector ground wires
i'll be back on later tonight and post some more photos

Dang, you're really humming along, there, Ian! Glad it's coming 2gther, quickly! I met a guy with Dual Fuel, yesterday, with an 85 SR5 EFI Long bed 4x4, ....he said, "If and WHEN gas goes up to 5$ all summer, .....I'll be VERY much pleased that I did this..... it's not been TOO much of a noticeable savings, yet, but it's slowly paying for itself....and again, when gas hits the roof? Yeah".
BTW, propane is a great way to test for mechanical issues, vs. EFI system issues.... as I found out after 100 hrs of chasing my tail and a 261 CAM later! hahaha.
BEST WISHES, BUD!

thanks mark! yeah, the only thing keeping me from starting is the slow communications and lack of u.s. parts and info. i'm looking for adapters and stuff for the propane tanks themselves, and if possible, be able to use standard 20# tanks. if not, i'm not going to sweat it.
i'll be sure to keep you all posted as i get information...
edit: rb- i don't think you'll have any problems putting this on a 1uz (or anyone else that fuel injection). the stuff i'm getting is specifically for 3 to 8 cylinder efi engines

Ian,
In Baltimore, the Harbor Tunnel prohibits the passage of propane tanks. I am sure this is the case in almost any tunnel in the US. Not that there isn't a way around the tunnel, just saying you may want to 'conceal' the tanks in the event you 'forget' about stuff like that.
just sayin,

ah, good point. huh, going cross-country pulling a trailer, we only had to stop once for our propane. the guy asked if it was turned off (which it was) and he said to go on through. i guess east coast restrictions are more stringent than elsewhere. i'll have the tanks in the bed, so probably not too noticeable... i hope

Some info I found today on CNG kits, looks like good prices: http://alternativefuels.about.com/gi...m/cnghome.html
I talked to a guy from Chesapeake Energy over the weekend, they are in the process of converting ALL of their fleet to CNG.
I need to see if there is a way to do the sequential injection kit on the TRD supercharger intake tubes.

cng is great, except the cost of the tank, where to find stations, and cost of a home pressurization system.
the stuff chesapeak energy is doing is absolutely amazing. there was an article about one of their offices, and it has a smaller carbon footprint than a prius (or something like that)
sorry to inform you all, but, like all my other projects, this is on hold due to my timing chain guide mis-hap.
however, after that is taken care of (and funds restored), this is my next project

While that would be nice, in my area it is not worth the cost IMHO. I'd just go to one of the filling stations close by me. Saw one last week $1.39/ gal eqiv. There are 3 CNG stations within 5 miles of me, one within 3 miles.
