I also added power steering to my 85 4x4 with a 22r, i got everything i needed off an 89 two wheel drive truck at pic n pull. Everything was a bolt on and what a big improvement it made driving the truck. I did get lucky though, when i got my truck it already had the second pulley needed for the power steering pump.

could you replace the the 2wd pitman for one off a 4x4 and make it work? I think the boxes are still the same, maybe just the pitmans are different?

theres an alignment mark on the pitman arm to get it on the box correctly..

Notice the overall size difference between the 2wd pitman arm and the 4wd pitman arm (the 4wd being the more robust of the two).
Now notice the size of the holes between the two:
4wd will not work with 2wd (as far as my parts show me).

Is there a night and day difference between these trucks w/ PS, and w/o PS?
i currently dont have Powersteering, and am looking around to put it on my truck, just making sure its worth the money/effort.
as long as i dont have to sit there and crank the wheel forever while in the parking lot or offroading ill be happy.

I am wondering that myself. I have stock tires and it not so bad once you learn how so see what is in front of you that way. I like the tight feel of the manual going up the highway. If you have the manual than the gas piston on the relay rod makes a huge differerence. I drove like that for two years. I did not even realize it was under there. It it will rip the wheel out of your hands.

is the power steering assembly the same on an 89 as an 86?
since i have access to a rolled 89, i might try and get the power steering off it, would it work or do i have to get the assembly from an 86-88, if its the same on the 89 i could get it for like $20, or $125 at a junkyard.
