I am going to daily drive it as is and sell it eventually. I did some maintenance stuff like valve cover gaskets / front axle / catalytic converter / all new tires. I really enjoy it, a lot more than I thought I would lol.

Sweet 4Runner! Were you on Club4ag? Same name, 23psi4age?

Yes I was! This is my only screen name for all my forums. I used to have an 87 AE86 1.7L HKS 4age Turbo + Nitrous + W58. Then I had an 85 AE86 3SGTE + W58 that I swapped to Beams 3SGE + 6 Speed. That one was light blue with mag blue volks and jdm zenki everything.
Hey all! I'm new here. I'm from Albuquerque, NM and I just scored an '88 Regular cab 4wd. My first truck when I was 16 was an '86... then later on I got an '89 4Runner. Anyhow, I got this project because I want to kind of recreate the one I had as a youth. I look forward to getting to know you all!

Yeah, I remember!!!! It's been a looooong time since I had my AE86's. My truck is the only Toyota I own now.

Very cool! This 4Runner is my only Toyota also right now. I just sold in December 2018 a barnfind 1971 Celica ST that I wanted to keep but was really a good flip to make some money on Bring A Trailer.
My beater. 238k. Slowly putting it back to stock, the nonsense bumpers came on it from the P.O.
I added the soft top and the 31" tires. Those will stay. Still debating whether to keep the Celica seats, as they are waayyy more comfy than the stock buckets.
She's in the shop now getting the front end straightened out (can't tell from pics but core support is pushed in from PO hitting a deer years ago, never really fixed it right), also having some nice old bumpers installed that I found locally.
I'll be removing the 2" lift and "levelling" kit as well. Also ordered a new set of striping/decals, as the PO ˟˟˟˟ed these ones up on the install.
I paid $7200 for this thing a couple summers ago. Values seem to be skyrocketing, but so does everything else with all this rampant inflation of the dollar. Anyway, it just appraised at $13.5k. That will only go up once some imperfections are repaired and it goes back to stock.
No, I don't off-road it.
You can see in this pic how the front grill looks pushed back in from the hood, that is what is getting fixed;
Nice fresh set of KO2s, and yes I have the factory center caps on the factory wheels with no intent to change. I'd like to find some more of the lugnut caps (little plastic ones) as I have some missing.
HVAC control panel has been replaced since these pics;
Celica seats, one of the few modifications I like!
And here is the main ride. Love the 4Runner but it's pretty impotent on the freeway. The Ford is a real piece of ˟˟˟˟ but 800+ lbs ft of torque is nice and an 8' bed makes it pretty damn useful. At 7,700 lbs unloaded it will tank through just about anything in 2WD except mud. It doesn't like mud at all.
Clean rig, is that paint original? James Dean sells some nice OEM style replacement body graphics. It's a shame someone drilled those handles and that visor into the cab metal.

Yes, paint is original. My father bought this truck brand new in September 1993. Yeah, I have seen those OEM reproduction decals, one day.
And yeah, the visor and handles aren't my style, but my pops put them on there as soon as he bought the truck, so they are staying I guess. I've owned this truck for 2 years now.
Started thinking i wanted to put new shackles on the 87 4runner due to a little rust. Than went from shackles, to new shocks, than to lift blocks and than just figured hell ill just take the whole truck apart and get all the rust off and repaint it. Now is just the start of my project because I love this truck 370,000 miles and runs like a champ in or out of 4wd. Super excited about this and to be a part of this awesome forum of fellow yota lovers Fully stock for now.
I just bought it with 198,000 miles on it for a great price. Has documented maintenance history from day one and has lived most of its life in the Southwest.
The interior looks brand new even...she's a real survivor.
