I've finally had a bit of time to source out some problems to get it running. It ended up being corroded wires in a connection under the passenger seat that goes to the fuel pump. fixed that, replaced the pump and filter... and now it runs!!

Just had a few questions/concerns:

- The engine sounds pretty loud (whether it's piston slap or valve train, or even the exhaust/header set up on it). I've read places it's somewhat normal... yeah?

Also... Cold start it smokes quite a bit... temperature outside was about high 30's... once i let it run for about 20-30 minutes it seems to calm down a bit...Sinus' are bad at the moment so I can't really smell what it smells like.

Car has about 1/4 tank of old (at least 1 year old fuel) in it... i've also added about a 1/4 tank of 92 oct v-power i had in a racing jug. New oil change, didn't see anything in the oil.

It has sat for over a year until i got it running. It's a new head.. PO was worried the block was cracked or something, but I haven't pulled it apart to inspect... just got it running.

Other questions to all you guys... below i've posted a couple youtube videos one of cold start and one after running... do you hear or see anything wrong?? I'm pretty new to these trucks so i'm not sure what's normal and what's not...

any input would be awesome!!

Thanks ahead for any input/help!
Definitely sounds like an exhaust leak on the down tube from the manifold. My son's 86 sounded just like that till I got the down tube fixed.

Mr Knee, I have a rear double shock kit like what is on yours, the lift if definitely 4.5" trailmaster, the shock kit is from Downey (RIP) and the ladder bars are from Downey also.
Side note: if anyone is interested in purchasing the front and rear double shock kit I have it for sale. PM me.

And I stand corrected.. This is what caused the rebuild.. The head gasket lead me to find these (how long have tose been in the oil pan?!) ANswer:: long enough to kill the crank...

This is my truck, the pictures aren't current (2 years ago, when I was in high school) but much hasn't changed...yet.

Wow that looks nice, it's so shiny! All ready for some new scratches and dents. I bet the first few will be a bit painful.
