I thought all 1st gen 4runners had two on the passenger side. Maybe you have a pickup door?

Maybe, I am not sure. I know my doors come off lol. Oh well doesn't matter, just reach around and lean seat forward, grab handle and open and get out.

If top is off, jump out the side or back lol.

I had the passenger panel apart a couple of weeks ago replacing the window motor. If I remember correctly, each handle has a rod that goes back to the door latch, so you will most likely be replacing the door latch as it will have "two" places for rods to clip into it. You will need a handle and door panel from a 4Runner (or cut a hole in your own panel). And you will need to fabricate the plate that holds the handle in position in the door.

Or you could get a door from a 4 Runner and paint it to match yours.

Good info, good to know. I will have to ponder if this is something I wanna do or not.

MattRX 88 SR5 3.0

Hey Fellas, just picked this up last weekend. It's my third 4runner. I had a 2002 Sport that I sold five years ago, and my wife currently drives a 2006 sport v6. I've been searching for an unmolested 1st Gen ever since I sold my 98 Frrontier. Bought this one for even money. Actually found in the classified section, another member linked the original Craigslist ad. Thanks Yotatech!

As much as I love the look of those tube bumpers on the back, I don't think I could ever part with my stocker. I got rear ended at a red light by a Mercedes doing 30. All I got was a little dent and a bent I bolt for trailer safety chains. The Mercedes was totaled. The front bumpers on these trucks are pretty weak, but the rears are strong as hell. Just my $.02.

I'm sure the tubular bumpers would be as strong if not stronger against a collision like that.

Depends on the height of the front bumper of the other vehicle.. I dunno just seems like less surface area up and down.

^ This bumper is way beefier then the stock one. On top of that, the stocker is rotting from the inside out.

I do agree with you on the surface area reference, though.
I plan on welding some tube from the sides towards the middle like the tacoma bumpers here:
