Thanks ChefYota! Yeah, you should def be very weary of taking ur top off in LA...people can be very shady. Fresno is, if not, just as bad as LA so I NEVER leave anything valuable in my truck. Always lock it and leave it but I'm pretty picky on areas that I go to so if when in doubt, I don't go where its too obvious. My top cost just around $70 (FJ40 top $55, $15 misc.) and was a very easy mod to do.

But seriously though,..... GET THE DOORS ON! lol.
i want the doors on! thanks for that chef, i'll seriously take that into consideration. And i actually havnt seen that 1000 ways to die episode, i very seldom watch that show.

but to add on to what you said, it is a VERY dangerous job. machinery is not forgiving. Luckily, safety is our #1 goal on the farm. we have only a handfull of minor accidents over the 40 years its been open.

but on a note, when i first started working there, i was young and stupid, and i thought that it "wasnt cool" to play it safe....but now that i've grown up, i keep my eyes and ears open 24/7, i'm always anticipating the next accident, so that way i can give the guys a headsup like "hey, watchout, that bailer will be coming you way"

i seriously BUG the crap out of every single worker there non-stop telling them to do this or that. I know it annoys them, but at the end of the day i always get a thank you from all the guys, and they always watch my back for me too!

I ALMOST had my catalytic converter stolen off my 'Runner a couple of nights ago up here in Northern Cali. It sure spooked me, so I put my top back on.

Why are so many guys mounting their spares on the tailgate? Nothing personal, but I can't stand the look of it. I myself would rather have it flush in the bed if I couldn't have it under. I know everyone has their own opinions and most people like the way that it looks and it's your truck so your opinion is the only one that matters. I understand that. Just my $.02.

Awesome truck otherwise, Hunt. I envy you.

Hunt, very nice pics/rig!!!!

Hey Badger, ..... I can't answer for Hunt, many others, but I'm kinda caught in the middle on it. For one though, most 4WD aficionado's I know want it there for two reasons... 1. Because when you bottom out in mud, with your axle burried.... or some other obscure position where the rear is buried..... WITH A FLAT? oooh, .....NOT FUN getting that spare off there mounted in the stock place. 2. Because the only real option, otherwise, is mounting on the roof with a rack or in the bed.... Far as the rack; Many don't like the idea of that for many reasons(MPG/clearance/etc.).... while some end up with both, cuz they need every bit of clearance underneath, storage outside and in, etc., and don't care about mileage/clearance, etc. 3. Well? Cuz many think it looks good, like you did mention.lol.

Having a 1st gen 4runner, myself... I'm kinda torn. I mean, I'd have to open it each time to get in the back, and where I camp sometimes, .... I sleep in there, plus, I back into very tight spots, ..spots where it would be a lil 'in the way' of how I like to set up my stuff with gear right to the tailgate, tables, in either direction for a couple feet each way. I've never got stuck on mine being underneath... but I guess if you go with 33's or bigger, maybe it's a problem storing them under there?

When your spare doesn't fit, I can see doing it. Not so sure about convenience, but to each his own.

It was not the original plan to have it back there. I knew a full size would fit in the stock location, but when I went to swap them out the "winch" was frozen and would not budge. Ended up having to beat and cut the whole thing out. I did not want to take up any more room in the bed so I decided to go a different route and gave C.B.I. a call.

Yeah, I hear ya... and like I said, "I'm torn on the whole thing" anyhow.... And in all honesty? Unless I can fab it up myself, no way I'd pay for that(that's just a personal 'savings vs. want-need relationship in my head, lol' .... ya know?

I know another guy who did it because he put an Aux Tank there, and another who I read put his second battery there and a small storage/lock box.(I wouldn't mind having dual batteries and an isolator, etc., ..... LOVED having that in my 70CST Blazer.... NEVER ONCE got stranded!
