I'm guilty too... And as TN said, it gets all crappy looking after about a month. I'd try to strip all the grease off of it with some acetone and spray clear on it if I were you. Once the engine is put together you won't be able to do it.

well hell, before paint, both my upper and lower manifold's looked quite similar; but of course I only have a pre-paint pic of my lower manifold
you wanna talk about something that's a PITA to clean...
granted it's not polished, but it still takes a long time...
and they turned out like so:

i still neeed the inside cleaned, i think ima take it to a machine shop for that but idk i got most of the larger deposits out so idk how much the rest will effect the performance. there was like 1/3 of an inch of buildup where the egr comes in

What about the build up on the inside? Can that be cleaned up a bit on the truck or will debris falling down into the lower part and eventually into the cumbustion chamber do any damage? I just took off my throttle body to clean it up and address the TPS.
I couldn't believe what I found behind it. Its like thick, moist brownie residue stuck to the pan. Comes off with the finger but I want to spray some throttle body cleaner in there and see metal again. Is this a good idea?

Idk I would take it off to clean it. But some tb cleaner can't hurt really, I would use that but don't go. Scrapin away, there's a lot o stuff in there. But even with it off its near impossible to get all that out. Its all just exhaust deposits. Uuugggh.
