please help wierd engine problem
i have a 1990 toyota pickup with a 22re, i picked the truck up pretty cheap but i figured out why. im pretty sure the motor is out of an 87 pickup and it was just thrown in there quick. it has some plugged vacuum hoses and the EGR has been bypassed. it runs decent most of the time but occasionally it will sputter at idle and surge when i try to accelerate, if i shut it off and let it sit it will stop doing it and run fine. it doesn't do this all the time and i cant figure out what it is. any help would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance.

tps
i had simillar symtoms with my 90 22re i found the water passage in the tps blocked this controls a valve that adjusts bypass air it does this with a type of thermostat located in the throttle position sensor.or the tps gasket might be leaking,if its a vacum leak you can locate it by spraying wd-40 or brakeclean on the suspected areas ,the idle wiil pick up .hope this helps mike
