Yes, when I checked it the problem was occuring, but not as bad as it is sometimes. It actually improved some after fuel filter change and fuel injector cleaner, but the problem is still there.

Well I got around to replacing the fuel filter today (along with a new steering stabilizer ) and it's still doing it.

Runs better overall but the main problem is still just as bad as before.

I'm leaning O2 sensor or coolant temp sensor.

Anybody know where the second coolant sensor is on the 22re? I found the one that goes to the gauge.

check the voltage at the Oxy terminal in the diagnostic connector under the hood. this is a direct readout from the O2 sensor and it should fluctuate around a center of 0.45V.

I've seen O2 sensor short internally so that power from the heater circuit goes through it and raises the sensor voltage over 1.0V telling the ECM that it is rich when it isn't so that the ECM then leans the mixture way out. This can be an intermittent/ temperature sensitive issue

I already ordered a new o2 sensor OEM denso brand. Im feeling that uncontrolable urge to start throwing parts at it untill it the problem is fixed. Looking back the problem started shortly after installing the splice in bosch brand sensor.

My .02... when you pulled the plugs, were they all the same or was just one indicating lean? If all 4 were white, then your problem is somewhere upstream of injectors. Could be a sticking flap in the maf? Even if the readings are good, it may just not not be opening or may be sticking intermittently. Also make sure that the tps is adjusted correctly. The ecm doesn't read all of the sensors on startup (open loop) untill after running for a short while, then it goes into closed loop. If there is no noticable difference when the crossover occurs, then I would lean more toward a physical problem than an electrical problem. Definitely seems like a fuel issue, though.

If the 02 sensor doesn`t fix the problem, you might want to send your injectors out to be cleaned and balanced.

I have already replaced the AFM and I unplugged the TPS while problem was occurring and it did not help and the OHMs where in spec, also all the plugs are equally white and glazed.

Update for future searches. The problem is fixed. Changed out the splice in bosch 02 sensor that only had 20k miles on it, for an OEM Denso brand 02 sensor. After a year of chasing this problem, its fixed.
thanks for all the replys and help!-jon
