Pickup or 4Runner?
I am looking to buy a Toyota Pickup or 4Runner from 89-95. Which would be better suitable for someone who wants an agressive everyday driver that I can also take off road a little bit and have it perform well?

I believe somebody started this thread a while back, search for it!
Anyways!
What year/body style are you looking at? I mean are you looking at the 1st gen or second gen 4runner.
But either way
They are both very capable it just depends on preference!
Both very capable, 4runner has more space for people, Truck has more space for cargo.
Personally, i don't NEED a pickup because i don't every haul anything, so what i do haul the 4runner is plenty capable, plus my stuff is always dry and secure!
Seriously do a search, type in Pickup Vs. 4runner or something like that

well it depends what your going to be doing. the pick-up has leaf springs and the 4runner has coil springs. and thats when it comes to personal opinions. i personally love the coils over leafs for performance and comfort. other than that and the pick-up box the two vehicles are identical. they both take abuse and keep on ticking.

I have stuck with trucks, they come in handy in a pinch for hauling.
unless u have more then two people riding with you everyday, I would go with a truck.
I have owned two 4-runner's in the past, i didn't care for them as much as my truck.
just my personal opnion
I just bought a 90 ext cab, now I need to sell my 88 ext
that back seat in the 90 makes all the diffrence for me.

Another thing to consider is if you are into camping, then you can fold the rear seats in the runner and sleep inside.
Like 4x4phil said, unless you have more than two people riding with you then a truck is probably more practical.
I personally, rarely drive other people around, but when i do its nice to know i can if needed. Currently i prefer 4runners over pickups just because i love the way they look, i don't haul too much stuff, my gear is always dry, and everything is locked. If i did more hauling or had a dirtbike then the story would change, but one thing about the 4runner is people don't ask you to move things for them (rocks, wood, furniture).
But if you are considering a truck you can always buy a camper shell, toolbox, etc. for some extra/dry storage.

The fronts of them are the same, i dunno how the rears are, but you can make them both flex with some additional parts.
if your not hauling around people, i would go pick up. Less body panels to screw up, and you can bob the bed or flat bed it.

I have 88 4runner and it seams i contract alot of body damage?i dont know why, but the p/u i wheel with dont really. Maybe i just a ty driver. Anyways my body is pretty banged up but i dont want to repair it or do a body swap. With a p/u you could just replace like the one peice. And pickups are nice cuz you can throw your nice muddy recovery gear in the back without it getting your truck all dirty inside. I already have 2 runner but im looking for a third but a pickup Im gona build a nice p/u for my main truck cuz i like them more

jeese, before you go for pickup I would suggest one of the first gen 4runners, you can just take off the back and then its a pickup, so you get a 2 in 1 really.

X3.... if you're torn between Runner and Pickup, get both with a 1'st gen. Try for one newer than '85 so you get fuel injection. If you can find an '85, they're solid axle fronts - very durable - but it's the only year with Fuel Injection and Solid axle (and a few DIDN'T have FI, so check that it's a 22RE engine).

89 4Runner is first gen and has removable top. 89 P/U is the different body style of the early 90's. 4Runner changed to that body style in 1990 and lost the removable top.
I like removable tops.

Pick up, pick up, pick up. All the way. Only thing a 4runner is better for is hauling people.
You can bob a pickup easily. It takes tons of work for a 4runner.
4runners are top heavy, and have a lot of body to screw up. build a custom bed for the rear of the pickup, and you only have to worry about the front end.
I have a first gen 4runner, and would go for a pickup all day long if a swap was feasible. It just isn't at this point.
pickups far outstrip 4runners on the trails.
