yeah I don't think their that bad for $140. havent had any problems yet on 31's with it. almost 2000 miles now on it. only thing I think I forgot to do is grease the throwout bearing. grrr.

Did you mean flywheel? I had mine turned locally for around $40 when I did my clutch in August. You just have to make sure they put a step in it. I've got about 6K miles on it since then and I've driven it to Manhattan.

I have been thinking about the flywheel...I was just going to leave it be, then I was thinking of having it turned...So I decided to order a new one. $60.00 for a new one and $40-$50 to have it turned. So I'm about $150 or so not too bad.
I have the day off tomorrow so I'm going to be starting then and hope to have it together and driving Sat. Only real issue is my helper, he's pretty much useless, my helper is me.

Well, it's nice to see that someone else has had a bug. One of my daughters has a 73 bug. I'm the mechanic. I will say, that replacing the clutch on the bug is alot harder than replacing the clutch on a Toy. Done them both, I pick the Toy.
If I were closer, I would stop by and be your helper. Love getting my hands dirty.

I had 2 of them...71 Bug and a 72 Super Beetle. I totaled the 71 and stripped it kept the motor, transaxle and a bunch of other parts. When I got the 72 it wouldn't run so I swapped motors and bought a 3rd that I was planning on building to an 1800cc. I changed the clutch once and the motors probably 4 times my record was 1.5 hours on an engine swap without help. Fun little cars they are!!!
Well that makes me feel better knowing that the Toy clutch should be easier than the Bug.

Dang....1.5 hours to swap engines! Your amazing. It took me all day to change the clutch on the 73.
The thing I like about the Toys, you do not need to jack them up so high to get things out. It's quite eay to remove the tranny to get to the clutch. Last clutch replacement was on my son's 89. Took us 8 hours. But wI spent time teaching him about what we were doing and how do do it.

right about now I think I can change my clutch faster by pulling the motor rather than the tranny lol. Lumpy I think that's where I got the $140 from. I also ordered the matching flywheel.

Well for the Bug I did it quite a few times...I'd run for a while fix 1 motor swap them and work on the other, swap them and work on it again...Easy as pie put it up on ramps, place jack under motor, 4 bolts come out, remove throttle cable, fuel line, and battery cable. Drop motor pull out.
If I recall the day I did the clutch it took about 3 hours total maybe a bit longer but it was all in an evening. This was many years ago...
I'm hoping the clutch on the Toy will take me not much longer than the 8 hours...Like I said I'll be doing this basically alone, in a gravel driveway, with normal jack. But I think I'll get it done before Sunday if all goes well.

I stongly recomend you rent, borrow, etc a tranny jack. Made the tranny removal/re-install a piece of cake. We of coarse left the t-case/crossmember attached to the tranny.
Flywheel & clutch are the easy parts.

I plan on leaving the cross member on so I have a bit more to hang on to...If it comes out proper that is. I think I'll be able to get by with a floor jack...I hope so. I'm going to have to do more reading about the shifter boots and nat as well. I don't want cut up the carpet and I'm not pulling the seats out.
