Find a used 22RE with low mileage. That way you're back up and running quick and way less work just to swap it. My '94 22RE with 84,000 miles was only 700 bones. I figure she's got another 100k miles in her lol.

One of the easiest drop in motors is the 5mge out of a 82-85 toyota supra. I-6
There's lots of tech on it and it's fairly cheap. In fact it's one of the easiest to do.
No need for expensive engine mounts all you do is combine the 22re mount and the supra mount's and it's bolt up and 1/2 done.
The supra W-58 bell housing bolts right up to a w56 4wd transmission.
Just find a rusted out or semi dead supra as a parts car and your 1/2 done.
I checked on e-bay the other day they had a 5mge short block rebuilt for $350 pretty darn cheap if you asked me and it's a toyota.
It's not a huge power increase but it has more hp than the 22re and more torque.

Add a turbo for more hp and adjustable boost control heee hawww hold on partner.... http://geocities.com/aarongarney/5mgte.html
Was a dream of mine but ran out of money and time to do it.
