Oil cooler opinions 3vze

Longer question below, but for the short version, how important is an oil cooler on these? Not hardcore wheeling, mostly around town and a beach cruiser. Wilmington, nc is fairly flat…

My ‘95 4Runner had a used engine put in by the previous owner and I know it was from a pickup, not 4Runner. Apparently the oil cooler was not standard on the trucks. In replacing my water pump as part of the head gasket job I’m doing I was first given a water pump with the hose barb for the oil cooler. I have found an oil cooler on an identical vehicle at the pick and pull, but not sure if I should snag it and install on mine or just run it as is?

Thanks!

I don't think your engine will fail without it. How long has it been running this way? Any problems?
If you can get it for a price you like and don't mind doing it then go for it for piece of mind. If you tow or carry extra weight it's a good upgrade.
I did a 3.4 swap into my 88 pickup. I had two engines, both from 4Runners. A 99 with a manual trans and a 2002 with auto. The auto trans engine had a larger engine oil cooler so I used it just because. I probably don't "need" one at all.
