Odd droning, whining, humming sound
For the past few weeks I been getting this slight droning, whining sounds when driving my truck. It only occurs when moving at speeds from ~5pm - 20mph. It doesn't make a difference if i'm in gear or not, and it seems to be coming from the front wheel (behind the dash area). After 20 mph or so, the sound is pretty much gone (or the tone changes enough where i can't hear it). It is driving me nuts! I wanted to see what you all thought it could be. Here is my take so far...
1. Brake dust build up?
Ive looked at the brakes and nothing seems overly clogged with dust. The sound doesn't change when I apply the brakes, so im doubting its a rubbing/contact issue between the pads and rotors.
2. Clutch/trans issue?
The sound doesn't change tone what so ever when I press the clutch peddle or coast in neutral.
3. Electrical ground issue?
Typically when ive seen these in the past, you get a tone change with engine rpm and its always present.
4. Wheel bearing issue?
When i've had wheel bearing go out, they make a nice metal on metal sound, that gets worse quite quickly. Ive wiggled the tires when the front end is jacked up and I don't feel and play. Not to say that rules it out tho.

Try in neutral, vehicle stopped, raise RPMs very very slowly to about 2000 and see if it reproduces the sound. It sounds like a harmonic ringing from an exhaust shield or something. I've heard cracked flexplates make that noise, but you have a manual trans.

Good idea. I will give that a try. So far when i'm stopped, the sound is gone, but I haven't tried adjusting rpm when stopped.

Tried this and no sound. Oddly enough when I had someone in the passenger seat the other day , the sound went away
