No power, loss of electrical power.
For the past 2 months the 1988 toyota 4x4 truck would just loose electrical power. I would stop and pop the hood and "giggle" the wires by the battery. Then the electric fan would come on and the dash would come back to life.
The other day I changed out the battery and nothing happened. The truck was electrically dead.
The problem was the main wire feeding the fuse box under the hood. The main power wire to the 80amp fuse came loose and was hanging. Attached our pictures to reference the problem.
The underneath of the fuse box show the connector minus the wire. The entire piece is clipped in and comes out with a screw driver to pop the tabs holding it in. The fuse and everything came out.

This photo shows the clip minus the wire. The 80amp fuse is to the right in the photo. A 10mm bolt holds the connector on. I pulled it off and spread the connector, replace with a new larger wire and soldered the wire to the connector. Then replaced. Popped it back into the fuse box and I was ready to go.

This was a frustrating problem that I spent a week checking this forum before I understood what area I needed to look at. I hope this helps others. This site has been very helpful to me and I hope this information can be helpful to others Toyota owners.

The wire was broken, frayed and corroded. I replace it with a larger gauge and soldered the wire. This wire made it 19 years before it pulled loose.
Many years of "womping" breaks things loose.

When a wire pulls loose it archs resulting in a large increase of current. Disconnect your main fuse box (3, 10mm bolts) and flip it over. Check the connections by pulling on the connected wires, and shoot some WD40 on the connections. The connection block comes out of the plastic fuse box thru the bottom.
