No-Cut ZUK Mod...our turn
So...ever since Joe got his 4runner 3 years ago, have noted the sag....even after interior / exterior and motor rebuild, we still were not entirely happy because of the sag.
really never wanted to do the cut method, so when I saw about the no-cut method...this was the route we were going to go.
ordered from Southwest Speed via EBAY.....5'' x 11'' 125lb rate. some debate before, during and after I placed my order made me change my mind from the 13'' ones to the 11'' ones (thank-you AJ from Southwest Speed for helping me with that!). glad I did (thanks Chef.....and Kiyo).

rear...from the lip of the wheel to the trim (shoulda been doing it from the center of the hub, but, regardless, it is a reference measurement)

about 2'' between the bumpstops. as you can see, they have met several times
about 7 1/2'' between the frame to the bottom bumpstop base
ordered on a Monday, got them on Thursday...$72.97 to my door

one last reference measurement....from the ground to the trim

loosen the bottom rear shock bolts while it's still on the ground. then loosen the lugs a bit, jack it up, place on stands, remove the shocks from the lower mounts, remove the tires, slowly let the rear come down.
even with all that done, there still was not enough room to get the spring in there. did not have a spring compressor (AUTO ZONE ???lost them, the guy said the computer showed 3 but he found zero) and I did not want to disappoint Joe and his brother...or myself. so I took the standard issue bottle jack and spread the are between the frame and the leaf a bit more. that gets dicey.....was afraid the jack might slip and unload in my direction. but anyway still had to squeeze the sprig down about another inch using OLD MAN STRENGTH to get it in place.

seems to be the perfect height now.
took it for about a 30 mile ride afterwards....a few good bounces had them seated well. I never knew we were hitting the bumpstops before, but there was a noticeable absence of a certain "thud" over bounces that I presume were the bumpstops hitting.
came home and took some more after measurements.
from the center of the hub to the trim measures 20'' even (no pic)
11'' spring, now compressed measures about 8 3/4''

VERY EASY mod. and by far one of the best to do for the ride and the look.

Very nice! Wish I would have gone this route rather than replacing the rear springs. Oh well, I'm happy with the results--just a much bigger pain to install.

true...was thinking about that or some heater hose
not hearing any scraping noises, just an occasional spring noise which I choose to not try to type.

Why did you choose the 125lb rated springs? I'm thinking of doing this and wondering if you like the 125 or wish you went with a lighter or heavier spring rate. Thanks

This looks like a great mod and just what I need, thanks for posting it! Did you need to fiddle with the LPSV at all other than detaching the arm when you dropped the axle and putting it back on when you were done? Also, stupid question but I can't make it out for sure on their ebay listing... do I order 2 or does one purchase get me two springs?

Nice man.
And to the LSPV question, you should not have to mess with the LSPV since your pretty much bringing your truck back to stock height with these.

just to let you all know....I'm still technically a noob to most things. so it was after reading and searching and asking etc etc etc, that I finally arrived at ordering the 13'' only to have my mind changed for me and changed the order to 11''. glad I did.
as far as difficulty goes......ummmm...really none. definitely took less than an hour.

I'm curious about the occasional spring noise. How often do you hear it? I'm wanting to do the no cut Zuk mod but am concerned about scraping and popping noises.
What made you decided to chose the 11" spring rather than the more common 12" spring that most people use?

the only noise we ever here, I think, is when we get the rear end up.....like after going through an intersection that has a few bounces.....and even that is hardly noticeable.
took it for about a 20 mile ride yesterday......actually aimed for every bounce I could find just to see if we were too bouncy or if there were any strange noises........nope. nothing.
so I am gonna say this was the perfect size and rate.

Don't forget about using the Jeep CJ springs. I got a set of them off ebay for around $45 and they work very well. The advantage of the CJ springs in the "no-cut" ZUK mod is that they have a smaller hole on one end that fits over the bottom bump stop perfectly. I would call my mod a "one-cut" ZUK mod, because I cut my springs down from 14" to 12" for a more stock look.

honestly...they didn't offer that size (5 x 12 x 125lb). but I am also glad we did not go any bigger. higher spring rate probably would have made the ride too harsh, lower would have been too bouncy, longer length would have probably jacked up the rear too much.
