Ya know, Toyota made a lot of trucks with the 3.4 already in it from the factory. I wonder why you got a '91 if you really wanted something else.
Don't try to change the timing belt without the manual (no, you can't just "guess" at the torques). http://web.archive.org/web/201204051...67timingbe.pdf You don't need a "puller" for the Harmonic Balancer (HB?), but you will need a tool to hold the Harmonic Balancer while you try to loosen (and then later tighten) the crank bolt. 161 ft-lbs spec; you're not going to hold that with your hand. I'm not sure if there is a (good) commercial tool for that, but there are lots of really good shop-made tools described on this site. I, of course, am partial to this one; https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...h-3vze-137934/
Gee, can't I just use the starter to remove the crank bolt? Maybe (sounds pretty scary to me), but that doesn't do you any good. You still have to put the crank bolt back in, and you'll need to get the tool for that.

Well scope103, I did get the truck I want, but thanks for your input. A little secret, if you have an impact, loosen up the HB before ya pull the belts. Again, thanks for all your positivity

Hmmm. My tool cost me just shy of $0.01. If I had tried my impact wrench, I'd have to remove the radiator (at a minimum). But that still would do me no good; I've got to use a torque wrench to put the bolt back in. (If my impact could take off a bolt originally tightened to 161 and not touched for 30 years, it could easily snap it off going back in. I choose a torque wrench.)
Your secret is safe with me.
