New Distributor, plugs won't fit

New Distributor, plugs won't fit
The mechanic that rebuilt my 22re put in a new distributor that has larger diameter plug receptacles than the original Toyota one. I wanted to reuse the wires, but they don't fit. When I look for distributor wire sets for Toyota, they all have the Toyota-specific posts (smaller diameter with little locking covers). Should I reuse the old dist cap or should I look for a wire set that fits the newer, non Toyota dist cap?
Thanks

There's at least 3 different plug wire sizes, 6mm, 7mm, and 8mm. There are other sizes but I don't think you'll run into them on a Toy. If you go back to your old cap make sure it fits the distributor. The rotor may also be different so compare the parts and make sure you use the one that goes with the cap.

I haven't actually seen 8mm on Toys, Yet. I'm sure somebody probably makes caps with 8mm lugs for racing, but it really isn't needed if you get a good set of wires. I tried a set of metal core wires on my mustang, didn't make any difference except for a lot of radio noise.

I'm seeing 2 different sets of plug wires for a 22RE...

Or

So pick the one that looks like what you need and get some for that year. I don't know if the cap & rotor are interchangeable for that distributor.

I'm with Odin, yes LCE parts would be awesome but I'm running out of cash and I gotta put my kids through college next year. I had to back down on a $900 purchase of a header and full exhaust kit from LCE with a year end discount. They were great on customer service, but I couldn't get myself to spend that kind of money. I'm planning a total kick ass rebuild of 22re and similar age truck as this one when I retire and I'm going with everything from LCE and 22RE Performance.
For now, I used the old dist wires and cap and they fit snug and have no breaks or problems.

Since you installed a new distributor you might want to clean the metal parts of the old cap with some #0000 steel wool and do a resistance test on those wires.
