Mystery Leak/Mystery Hose/Exhaust Options!!

Hi all,

A few questions that came to light while doing an oil change on my 86 2wd standard pickup.

-See photos......I noticed a leak onto the chassis which wiped off all the paint! I will repaint it to protect the chassis, but have no idea what is leaking or where it is coming from! No nearby hoses have any moisture of any kind on them! These pictures are the front passenger side. Also, there is a hose (near the missing paint) that extends from maybe a charcoal canister, into a grommet, into the chassis.....and exiting nowhere! Any idea what it is for??

-Lastly, are there any bolt on exhaust systems available for my pickup (from the manifold all the way back)? I do not weld, so would like a plug and play.....and stainless if possible!

Thanks for any advice....

Julian

Air input into the Evap Cannister. http://web.archive.org/web/201109110...17evaporat.pdf

As for your paint, brake fluid is very hard on paint. Assuming you find no sign of fluid now, do you know if there was a leak at some time in the past?

Is the battery on the same side as where the paint is gone?

There was brake fluid leaking on the frame that’s why the paint is gone.
there is a hose that comes off the bottom of the charcoal canister and it goes into the frame. This is normal. It’s a vent/ overflow.

The new caliper is on the passenger side where the battery lives.... if there was a battery failure in the past it was possibly putting battery acid on the frame... what's the underside of the hood look like above the battery?

Thanks guys.....

-I put a new battery - and new battery cables - in several months back.....did not notice the frame paint issue. The underside of the hood is clean. Battery acid is a good idea, but I don't think it is that.

-Good eye with the caliper.....the original caliper froze (truck now has only 64K miles). I took the opportunity to replace both calipers, rotors, pads, all brake flexi hoses, and wheel bearings. Should have no issues with all that for a while. I agree that brake fluid eats paint quickly.....which is actually what I originally thought. I'll keep my eye on the fluid level, but again I did not notice any wetness anywhere around that. Unless it was fluid from when I did the job a few months back that somehow I didn't notice at the time.

-Didn't think about the vent hose for the canister.....thanks!

Any thoughts on the exhaust options???

Thanks so much,
Julian
