two things when welding sheet metal lower heat and don't run a continuous bead if you do once it starts breaking it will break all the way down the bead

And I still haven't painted/bondo'ed so yeah...
Like others have said, do beads, but not one after another. Do a bead over here > then way over there > then in some random spot > then way over there so that nothing get TOO hot. That way you'll avoid warping the metal. One side of mine is warped pretty badly unfortunately. Once you get enough beads, you can join them together.
And of course, the closer you can get the two sheetmetal pieces together, the easier it is.

id honestly say the hardest part of welding is all the prepwork... the cleaning, scraping, brushing, and clamping in place. That's what takes a while.
Once everything is ready, welding doesn't really take all that long...
just make sure u paint the welds or else they rust

Just stumbled upon this thread. Read it and thought I'd just say I love the chop! Do you still own it? What's it look like now? I own a pu but someday would love to chop a runner. Good job.

Hey, thanks
No, I traded this truck for a supra a few years back and am now on my second supra,
A buddy told me he saw it about a month ago, still on the road, apparently it's got a SAS now:-)
If I see it I'll get some pics to post for you
