if you succeed in figuring out what the exhaust setup is, I really like that sound. throaty but not too loud at all. mine is starting to get a few small leaks, and it's soon time to upgrade...

That's a sweet truck, nice snag. I've got one a lot like it.
Some tips on suspension: you've got lift blocks in the back, get rid of these and get a spring that's properly made & arched for the lift, with that much lift you may need to consider a trick shackle to make it work well. In the front my guess is the PO has cranked the stock torsion bars to achieve put it on the high end of the travel range. Yes, I know there's an additional 4" of bracket lift, but I suspect the torsion bars are giving another 2" and if you upgrade to a heavier duty torsion bar, you won't have to preload it so much and it'll have more range of motion giving you a softer ride.
I know, makes no sense, but a set of bigger springs in the back and thicker torsion bars in the front will make that truck ride and flex 100x better.
On the tires & gearing, you need to find out the gearing. If it's been regeared to 5.29s those tires are still a bit big, but if it's hacking it, leave them be.
You want to gear the 3VZE right in it's powerband, not too high or low.
The auto trans needs a step lower than the stick. 4.88s and 33" on a 5spd are good, 4.56s & 31"s, 5.29s & 35s... But there's another hidden cost in the bigger tire, weight. Engine has to work hard to overcome tire's inertia and so do your brakes. Which is why I say those may be too big.
I like body lifts. My truck has a 2". Nice big blocks and grade 8 hardware. A body lift just gives you a little more room to work on it and if well designed I see these as a positive. Having said that, a 4" body lift is a little much. I'd check all the fasteners if I were you, but again, if it's working, leave it be.
Focus on getting the suspension working better and get your gearing right and it'll do just fine. Oh, get a frame mounted roll bar!

$9400 with a full tank of gas a fresh detail job. 136,000 miles.

Also, I'm thinking that I really need to get this truck re-geared. I'm already hating it because to run 55-60 I either have to really wind out third or lug 4th. I'm thinking some 5.29's with 36's or maybe 35's will do just about right. I'm not sure if the 35's would look silly with that much lift.
Once I get that done I'm just going to drive it. I'll wheel it some but nothing crazy for now. Once it's paid for I'll start saving some dough to make some major changes. For now I'm just going to enjoy it.

nice rig, find someone to buy those tires and get you some 33's. If you pick the right lines that's all you'll need for IFS. I have followed a big ole ranger with 35's on the same trails and I only had 29's on stock 87 IFS setup. Pulled him out a few times too! Oh, and let me be the first to say....Search, noob haha

Welcome to the darkside
Nice truck,
Its a lot like mine.....4" bracet lift, 3" body......we have pretty much the same exhaust note too..mine is a borla system with headers though..but only a single exhaust...does yours have headers?..
with mine (i run 35"s and 4.56's 5 spd) its livable in 5th gear even on a small incline....bout 2800 in 4th going about 100km /h (70mph)
take care of the 3VZE..it has a bit of a rep for head gaskets...but keep it maintained...(ie all fluids etc.) and itll be fine......
Heres a pic of mine to show the lift comparison
and welcome again

definitely keep the 37s man, they look REALLy nice. who cares if you get called a mall crawler... I wouldnt be wheeling the pee out of a truck that nice anyway... so your axles should be fine, because I doubt you will be jumping boulders... i had a 85 on 36s w/ 5.29s and I could easily do 90mph with 4banger... you probably have 4.56s... I would start looking for some prebuilt 3rd members (with a detroit in the rear). thats usually the easiest and not too expensive. I would leave the lift alone and figure out how to remount the bumper.. youre going to have problems towing with 7" of lift...
looks great
and definitely remount that oil filter... man thats a bad thing waiting to happen...

First off great buy on a cool truck!! Now get rid of the sticker its gay! Keep the truck like it is,you paid that much for it, drive it. With 37s you need to go with 5.29 gears not 5.71 those are for mall crawlin.

I'd keep the sticker, but thats just me...
stock gearing will suck, but not as bad as everyone is making it sound. if ur driving highway home, you will be SLOW on excelleration but once ur at cruising speed it wont really be that bad...I heard once that ur milage is actually better at highway speeds and stock gearing w/ big tires...idk how accurate that is but yeah...
nice truck though man!
