muffler or no muffler?
Hey does anyone know a good muffler for a 22re, The guy who had it before me put big exhast piping and a huge flowmaster I think its a 40 series, not sure, but it just sounds real airy, does anyone run without a muffler, just a cat? I think Im going to just cut it off, thats how I had my V6 till it decided to blow both head gaskets . Any advice would help.

sure cut it off and get pulled over for being to loud .... i had a flowmaster delta 40 on my 22re with 2.25'' pipes and it sounded great ... are you looking for it to be loud or just a little loud

yea those nazi-cops would have a field day with you. Besides the fact that your gonna need a ring job after a while of having almost no backpressure.

yea, I ran without a muffler for about 8 months....Not a good idea. As far as I know, no damage, but after running without it, and having one put on. I estimate I regained 20+ hp with a new performance muffler. I got the muffler used, it came off a tundra. i think i spent 100 or less on the muffler, new tailpipe and labor.

My V6 wasnt that loud, never got pulled over for loudness, but the back pressure sucked, what muffler would you guys recommend, I dont mind loudness, just not deafning, I want a muffler that sounds great, and performs good too, any suggestions? I think I figured out why it sounds so airy, theres a leak in a weld its about the size of a toothpick, how much do you guys think a muffler shop will weld it for, or should i throw some jb weld?

If you're trying to save money, just get a muffler from anyone of the parts retailers. Don't go without one though. I'm not aware of any state that allows you to not have one at all. It's not just due to noise but fumes getting into the cab because of where they exit the vehicle.

A huge header back exhaust will actually cost you torque.
If you've got a small pipe all the way to the cat, then a muffler is just a sound device.. don't gain anything sigificant by remove it, other than noise.

I think a flowmaster 50 series would sound good on that. I would not run with out some form of muffler and cat. I have a 12 inch glasspac and no cat. The old one was pluged and I just haven't gotten around to a new one. Car sounds cat will be added soon enough.
