Modification laundry list! Any help is good.

I would say that's a safe bet ^^^^^^^^^
Lower gearing would make it so your truck has more pep in it's step, and would only shave a little bit off of your top speed, but in your case, it would probably allow you to go closer to 90MPH(MAX) because it would put you within your engine's powerband, and your HP would be able to overcome the wind drag better(or something like that), and your RPMs would be higher.

if you want lights pick up a set of hella 500s and mount them on your bumper, instructions on how to wire them into your headlights are included in the box. at night it is a large difference, worth every dollar for the ones on my bumper, but i sometimes wonder why i bought the rest. depending on what gears your truck came with, re gearing would be a very good idea

In my opinion man that 22re is bullit proof if your looking for more power go to
www.LCengineering.com
and look up their efi kits for the 22re. For 950 bucks plus shipping you get another 25-30 horsepower in your little 22re no joke. The kit comes with K&N intake, performance cam, bored out throttle body, and an lc engineering header. All of these but the cam are simple bolt ons with alot of power to be had once installed and if your mechanically incline than you can throw the cam in yourself or have a mechanic do it at the cost of labor. LC engineering also boasts a 2-3 mpg increase in gas mileage. Since your running 34's you also might want to consider some 4.88 gears. I use to run 33's on stock 410 gears for the longest time until I finally saved up enough cash to get some yukon 4.88's installed in my rig. My truck was like a little hot rod. My gas mileage went from 150 miles per tank to about 220 so it makes a pretty big difference.

Your truck will reach a higher top speed and get there faster with correct gearing.
Or, you can spend lots of dough on engine mods, run over geared, and get your rear end handed to you by stock trucks with correct gearing all day. Your call, we're just trying to help you go faster quicker.
Your 4 cylinder will not produce much more torque with your modifications. It will produce closer to its peak torque and higher RPMS. (power = torque X RPM) You'd need to build a stroker to really get a significant torque increase across the entire RPM band. However, if you tune your engine to rev high, which is easy on a 4 cylinder, and gear low, your truck will move.

woah woah chilll i'll look into re-gearing. i just know what the low range does, so I figured it would have the same effect (different gears mean better acceleration, worse top speed) but I didn't factor in high-end torque (for turning more tire weight at a high speed).
any good suggestions for suppliers or ratios? (i want front and back diffs btw)

Changing the gears wont slow you down anything like putting it in low range. Now worries there. Right now as your truck is it would probably have a higher top speed in 4th gear than in 5th. I know my old 82 was faster in 4th than 5th. Just couldn't pull in 5th.

all right. by "undergeared" you mean lugging the engine at top end, right? which means I would rather be "overgeared" and be limited by RPM's and not by power... somewhere between 4.8 and 5.0 would be good?
#33
Sorry, I should clarify, under-geared means your engine is spinning faster than it did stock, you have more acceleration and assuming your vehicle topped out at redline, would go slower.
So, a 5 speed truck revs a little higher at 65 running 4.88's and 33's than it did with its stock tires and say 4.10's. With your 34's, you should be just about right on the money.
You certainly could gear lower but you'll rev more on the freeway. You might actually get more top speed but it's hard to say for sure and if it didn't it's expensive to correct.

right, and I need it to rev a little higher, because it's lugging now. and if I can get it to rev higher, then hopefully the change will raise my top end.
and I like higher top end. i miss the eighties hahaha.

hey, if I go with lower gears it will accelerate better too, right? and what will that do to my speedometer? It's already whacked from the bigger tires.

Well, with 4.88's your speedo should be just about dead on. If you had 35's, I'd say 5.29s. If you ever might go to 35's, 5.29s. Actually, given the added drag of aired down tires I would personally go 5.29's even with 34's but that's just me.

I wish. It's pretty hard. Well if you have a press, inch-pound torque wrench, and micrometer on a magnetic base, it's not too bad. Toyota's are some of the easier diffs. However, I would suggest taking your third members to a shop. If you do it wrong, you'll ruin a set of gears in about 100 feet. It's pricey but one of those things we all face, just a matter of when.
There isn't anything between 4.88 and 5.29. Sill though, off road, suspension is usually the limiting factor as far as speed is concerned so gearing to accelerate isn't a bad idea.
